#1 is getting a lot more interesting. This one works for several reasons. First the composition is quite good. Second, the tonalities are in concert with the elements that are in focus. That is, the portions that are of interest are also the brightest. Good background in that it does not distract. And lastly, there is enough of the plant in view that you can get the overall concept of its structure.

#2 just doesn't make it for me. There is too little that is in focus - only the nearest extremities of the blossom are in focus. Everything deeper into it is very fuzzy.

I really like the first one and agree with Robert - the blooms are crisp and sharp. I also like the layout of the picture.

Thank you for your feedback Robert. I really loved the shapes and colours of the first plant and was quite pleased with the result. On number two, I thought I would use a shallow depth of field to emphasis what I felt was the most interesting bit of the flower, which for me was the outside shape of the petals. I think you're correct though, it could be much stronger. Well, this weekend once I finish work, I have the house to myself and my sweetheart has just bought me some tulips so I'll have another go and see what I can come up with. Thanks again!
