Your title references import but you mention opening the file previously. Do you mean that this file was previously imported and you could see it OK or you are re-importing this file and it is now displaying like this?

I was going to work on it then this happened.

So I tried deleting it from the catalog then re-import it again, same issue.

My thought is it's a corrupt file.
Other people may have a better idea.

Well, it is definitely corrupt. I seriously doubt Lightroom is responsible but it may have happened on the card or somehow during import. How are the other files from this import?

Yeah, well it's weird because I worked on it like 3 days ago and it was fine.

Do you have a backup copy that you can check and, if good, overwrite the corrupt one?

Yeah still had the files on my camera, so I overwrote it and it's working fine.

But why all of a sudden it became corrupt within LR?

It was corrupt on the hard drive, possibly because of a bad sector. Lr just read the file as it was.

I have to agree that the corruption occurred somewhere outside LR. I just can't see LR causing this kind of damage.

Other than when the file is initially imported Lightroom doesn't write to or edit RAW files, so it can't corrupt them. Even when importing the actual copy/write process is handled by the OS.

Lightroom's editing is non-destructive. All it does is read the RAW data (which in itself can't corrupt a file) and then save any edits as notes stored in its catalog. They aren't written to the actual RAW file, except with the possible exception of if you choose to write exif data back to the file.

File corruption is usually cased by
1. Bad memory card (images shows as corrupt on the camera).
2. Bad card reader (image is fine on camera but corrupt when transferred)*
3. Bad sector on the drive or other hardware issues that cause problems after the file has been copied.

* Note: option 2 can sometimes be option 1 in disguise. Sometimes the part of the RAW data may be corrupted by a faulty card but the JPEG preview is unaffected. This means the files will appear to be fine when previewed on the camera LCD and the corruption to the RAW file wont be apparent until you copy it to your computer and try to edit it.

Brand new of anything can have flaws. I'm not saying that is the case here but the fact is just because it's new doesn't mean it's 100% right. Hopefully this will not occur again but if it did I for one would be trying a different card reader assuming that is what you have been using. Good luck in tracking down the culprit.

I'll run check disk tonight.

I've been transferring directly from the camera via EOS Utility with the usb cable. I’ll try a new cable and then a new port.

Kinda sucks because I've never had this problem with my old computer.

I think I found the problem, the SM Bus driver wasn't installed properly which I think was my SSD.

We'll see how it goes :)
