Help I need to change _MG files to IMG files so a programme will read my files. Any ideas, Adobe bridge seems to be fine for file extensions change, but not the first text nos.

Thanks!:-)

First of all do you really mean IMG_ (note the underscore after IMG or do you just mean IMG?

I assume you are aware that the difference in _MG and IMG is the color space setting on your camera. The camera can generate basic files types, a jpeg and/or a RAW file. The jpeg can be in either the AdobeRGB (file type _MG) or sRGB (file type IMG) color space. Which you prefer is set in-camera and many use sRGB which generates a file with an extension of IMG. If you shoot RAW, you can save to either color space. If you don't have the RAW images I suggest you do a Google search using the terms convert AdobeRGB to sRGB. Without knowing your computers type (PC or MAC) and skills it is hard to make a recommendation.

I have not used the method but it should get the job done. A batch file is a kind of script that works with dos/windows. Pick a method that makes you happy..

In the past, I've used a program called "File renamer basic". it can easily batch that change, and it even has a preview mode. Lots of renaming methods as well.

Bridge will rename based on any pattern you like, both the first and last parts of the name. It is probably difficult to keep the original filenames, but I would ask why you want to keep the original filenames anyway. I rename all files right after import, based on the event/people/etc.

I used the "search" function to find out about this issue.... Thank you for the answer.
A couple of days ago, after doing some reading, I changed my settings to "AdobeRGB". I freaked out a little when I transferred my images just now. I wasn't aware that it was going to change the file number format. I had some photos from before I changed the format & some that were taken afterwards -- I was stymied as to why they weren't in order anymore.

Whew!!!

You know that in most file and/or image viewing applications that you can sort by exposure time for image files, so that they always show in the same order as they were taken? This is also useful where the digits have rolled over the maximum number available during a shoot.
