1) How do I factory reset my 7Dmk2?
2) I am a CPS gold member. To become one I had to register all my Canon equipment to get the necessary points. Now when I log in to the site I can't find any of my registered camera bodies or lens Could someone please provide the correct link? I go to Canon accounts and I clicked on the Canon Professional Services link and all it does is bring me to the Canon online store??

1 -

Put the Camera in Manual Mode
Press the [Menu] button
Scroll over to the third subsection of the third set of menu options.
Scroll down to the “Clear all Camera Settings” option by using the quick control dial
Click the [Set] button. Scroll over to the [OK] button and click [Set] button again.
When the factory reset has been completed, pull out the battery
Look in the battery compartment, and you’ll see a little slider you can pull it.
Behind this slider are the backup-battery hidden. Take this battery out for at least an hour, replace the backup-battery, and the “normal” battery.

2 - I don't know specifically but as a CPS gold member you can simply call the hotline for this. You could have also called for the reset instructions. 24/7 support is part of the package.

Those instructions are not the same as a factory reset.

I may be missing something but what are you trying to change that resetting to the default settings isn't accomplishing?

The procedure you quoted is basically a soft method of resetting certain user configured options. A true hard reset will clear everything from memory right down to the clock just like when you took the camera out of the box and installed the battery for the first time. The effect of resetting like this has been reported as a fix for a lot of problems including those related to AF. True or not I can't confirm. People selling a unit often use this as a safe method of erasing all traces of ownership as well. Copyright info, etc.

EDIT: Actually found this right here on the forum. A little old but still relevant.

I don't think the 7D2 has a date/time battery that can be removed.
There is no sliding door in the main battery compartment. Bummer.
What happens when the internal backup battery goes bad? Will I need to
send my 7D2 to Canon for backup battery replacement?
I prefer the removable backup battery like the 5D3 or the original 7D has.
Is the 5D3 the last new Canon DSLR to have a removable backup battery?

Oh yeah. I had assumed it was the same as the 7d but I just picked up the camera and sure enough it isn't there. Did a little research and it seems there is an internal rechargeable battery that gets topped up from the main battery and the charge lasts for several months. Not sure how to do a hard reset in that case. If the backup fails it needs to be serviced for replacement.

Hmmm

Removable backup battery=
a) hard reset possible
b) easy cheap DIY backup battery replacement

Internal backup battery=
a) hard reset not possible
b) expensive backup battery replacement
c) without camera while it is at Canon getting the battery replaced

Er, do you know of anybody who has actually needed to replace their internal battery? I dunno what the expected battery life is, but my 20D is 10 years old and is still going strong.

Good point Frank. I did have one that went wonky and started leaking years ago though. I probably wouldn't have ben very happy if I had to ship it to Canon for the fix.

This supplemental battery life is probably much dependent upon the individual's practices in keeping the main battery in the camera always charged.

The backup battery went out on my 7D. It was a CR1616 battery available everywhere. Good thing that
it was removable and easy to change, only took a couple of minutes.
Just in case you have to replace the removable backup battery in your 20D , it is a CR2016 available everywhere.
You will be happy that it is removable and easy to change.
