I'm watching all kinds of deals on bodies, lenses, batteries, and memory cards, but it seems bags never go on sale

I need one for a flight in little over a month. Needs to hold two gripped full frame bodies, one 70-200mm and 4 other lenses. Want it to fit overhead compartment for carry on. Don't care if they're attached or not. I'd rather have more padding to protect it from the rigors of connecting flights than having silly hidden access pockets for drawing and shooting on the fly. Its mainly for transport.

Thanks

Like any other retail item they go on sale quite regularly. You just have to be patient if you have your eye on a specific model. I bought a heavily discounted Tamrac Expedition 7x a few months ago on Amazon to replace a damaged one. Also, bags are one of those things that people are constantly changing. If you keep an eye out on the BST there are exceptional deals to be had.

Oh sorry. The classified section. People often buy bags, use them lightly and decide it doesn't suit them and sell them at good discounts.

Thanks.

Nervous about sending 'some guy on the internet' some money and hoping a product shows up in the mail 1- 2 weeks later.

They do, IF you are in a brick and mortar store, and IF you are buying a camera!

I walked out of a Hunts the other day with my 7D2 and a great "sale" on a Thinktank Retrospective 30 :)

My guess i that a similar deal could be had via a phone sale.
Remember, mark up on cameras and lenses is a competitively low %,.

Mark up on bags and accessories, at least 100%

Timing is everything. I got the LowePro that I was looking for when I got a 1 day sale email from B&H for more than 1/2 off. Amazon just had some pretty good prices on Pelican cases recently also.
So, hold on as long as possible if you can.

Don't be cheap. Just buy what you want.

Yeah I've been looking for months :-(

I check the Market Place/Deals forum here on POTN, canon rumors, and get the daily deal email from B&H. What else is there to check consistently. I can wait another two or three weeks but will need to pull the trigger by then at the latest.

Rather insensitive comment. Some people approach personal finances and consumer spending judiciously. Nothing wrong with buying what you want and saving on the purchase.

Ah, but they do go on sale. I got a Crumple 7MDH for a steal from B&H, they were clearing out inventory. Be patient, they'll come on sale eventually.

I also looked for months. Then gave up. And the next time I checked a local online forum-- the exact bag I wanted was listed for dirt cheap!

So give up now. And then look tomorrow :)

Judo, I appreciate your desire to keep things positive and on the up & up. However, I don't think GFB's advice was given without malice or intent to antagonize. Truth be told--I think its good advice. A lot of times when getting into a new hobby or a new area of a hobby its tempting to skimp--like a tripod. However, the adage "buy nice or buy twice" and "buy once, cry once" are around for good reason. Sometimes I need to hear such words.. and yes, I do want to save on the purchase--save BIG if possible ;-)a

I was curt before but I'm glad you get my point. Bags are a worthwhile investment as they protect and transport your gear. While sales are nice, it's better to get what you need. Most on here have invested a fair amount into their gear. Better to protect it well now. Whichever you decide is obviously fine for you, but just throwing in my two cents. I've owned, Domke, Think Tank, Lowepro, Billingham, F-Stop and probably a few others I'm forgetting. Each serves their own purpose but I did realize if I cheaped out I ended up spending more in the long run. So, go for what will work for you and try to avoid cheapening your purchase.

Will do! :-P Yes, I will have about $8,000 of gear inside. Leaning towards the Think Tank Airport Commuter. I guess the option of a roller bag would be nice but I have little ankle biters, too. I need to tough it out on my shoulders so I can lasso them at the airport.

Thanks for contributing.
