Are manfrotto tirpods weather/water/sand proof? I was searching online about the 055prob but there is no indication that it is. I am planning to use the tripod in the rain, at a beach, inside a waterfall etc..

I think you will be hard pressed to find any tripod that is water-resistant and is still affordable. I do no know if anyone even makes such a thing.

I have the 055prob and use it ALL the time sticking the legs in sand, snow, water and have never had a problem at all. If I were to use it in salt water I would hose it off when I am done as a precaution is all.

Its a great affordable tripod and super light weight compared to my old aluminum (heavier than hell but very stable) Bogen tripod I used for years.

Proof? I have used mine in a variety of situations and as long as you rinse, blow and wipe it off they are just fine. Sand is a killer an any tripod so you have to get the grit out before continual collapsing of the legs. An air hose or canned air (in combination with a dry cotton towel) works great

I have the 055XPROB. I wouldn't say it's weather/water/sand proof. The legs aren't sealed in any way. Just use it as you need to, and clean it up afterwards, even if that means taking it apart and cleaning it after being in sand/salt water.

Mine (aluminium) has been in saltwater a lot, I just wash it off afterwards and give it a wipe with a rag and WD40 now and again.

The Gitzo Ocean series of systematics claim the attributes you're looking for but I think they've been discontinued due to lack of belief both in the performance and the unbelievable prices they were asking for them (up to almost $2K). I have a throwaway Benro aluminum tripod for ocean shots. It's very heavy and stable and it was very inexpensive.
