I don't think any of the Feisol attachments are compatible with the Gitzo. I think a completely different attachment method is used.

I assume that none of the Benro/Induro attachments fit the newer Gitzo's like my GT 2542LS?

The Benro and Induro do in fact fit still. (as will old Gitzo parts made before the new safety lock)

The safety lock even "sort of " works with the induro parts as they have a recessed groove all the way around that the old Gitzo plates lacked. It is a bit more sloppy fit than the real Gitzo but that groove will catch the safety catch and prevent a plate or collar from separating should the actual spider clamp let go.

Note the substantial groove, or lip, depending on how you want to look at it;

The same groove is on the geared column I bought and it locks right into the safety on my series 3 GT 3532LS

I think you are correct about the Feisol parts.

Thanks for those clarifications!

It looks like I have some potential choices for a column with collar, which is the larger need. Induro supplies columns, but I can't find any online info about collars, I'll enquire.

Earlier today I did send email to a Feisol dealer - their column/collar bundles are *very* reasonably priced at $40-60 in carbon fiber. Will post back if I learn more about this. I'm guessing there are more than two of us with older Gitzo looking at the current accessories pricing and scratching our heads.

Thanks also for the note about the multi-sized series 4 accessories.

Well I'm resurrecting this thread because the geared center column that Jake got also works in at least one of Really Right Stuff's line of tripods; their 3-series tripods. I figured this out because Jake's 70mm diameter for the apex ring is the same on RRS 3-series legs. RRS copied the most popular apex ring when they started making tripods. I had a Gitzo 3541LS tripod and I bought a RRS leveling base for it because I didn't like the Gitzo one and it was way more expensive too. Eventually Gitzo introduced the locking system that made my leveling base and other RRS products incompatible.

Cut to the present and now my big tripod is a RRS TVC-33S Mk2 and the apex ring is still 70mm. So it was a no-brainer to get the updated model MGC23S which works just fine in the TVC-33S, and it's still just $175 too but the Gitzo is now down to $400. So for any RRS tripod owners who use geared tripod heads and would also like a geared center column at a reasonable price the Induro MGC23S is just the ticket.:-)

Similar but different goal here...

Is there a carbon column with 70mm insert that is compatible with the Induro lock mechanism? I want to keep the weight down, so don’t need a geared column. Benro and Induro don’t seem to offer a Systematic-style carbon column. The grooves on the Leofoto, Sirui and Gitzo also appear different than Induro, so will any still lock if inserted?

I do know that any column made by Induro that is called "Series 3" will have the same out diameter as a Gitzo column called "System 3"

I also have a Feisol column where this was the case.

I actually had a hard time finding a 3rd party rapid column assembly (with the collar) but if you can find one of these;
http://www.ebay.com …geName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT (external link)

Any of the Induro series 3 columns on this page will fit in that Gitzo Series 3 collar
http://www.indurogear.com/products/tripod-accessories/ (external link)

I got this one and a long one from my Induro CT313
http://www.amazon.com …oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s02 (external link)

IMPORTANT! Here the "Series' has to be the exact number. ie: Induro 3 fits Gitzo 3, not 2 or 4!
In this case the "3" is referring to the diameter of column used for the center column, NOT the diameter of the opening into which the collar will fit!

Feisol complete rapid column rigs with collar etc are readily available, but alas, like everything we've discovered in the thread, I can not find anyone anywhere that will vouch for compatibility with the Gitzo magic "70mm"

OK, I read this again, and think i understand your question. The part you need was not being made for sale alone by ANYONE last time I was looking. No idea why...

A used "Gitzo G1317 Systematic Series 2/3/4 Aluminum Rapid Center Column Collar"

In the mean time, LeoFoto strikes again, and they ARE making one for Series 5,

Can't find one for Series 3 though... :(

Thanks. I’m pretty sure this one is for the Series 3 with a 70mm insert.

However, the groove in the collar insert is different than the Induro collar. Maybe the Induro lock will still work, but I’m not convinced by the photo it is worth ordering to find out.

I have found that the lock system does not impact if the pair will work together. You may not be able to use the additional safety locking features, but the Gitzo's worked for 40 years without one! Plus, it is a VERY easy fix to alter them to make them work, if you are so inclined.

That column and price look simply amazing!

Sunwayfoto, Benro et al have their own products and brands (e.g. Sunwayfoto --> Desmond and Benro --> Induro) and are also OEMs for separate companies that don't have manufacturing capability. The Leofoto brand is manufactured by Zhongshan Laitu Photographics Equipment Co. which was founded in late 2005 or 2014, depending on which web site you read. The company is privately owned by a single individual. It's a small company, about the same size as FLM in Germany.

Like FLM, the Leofoto products are high-end with apparently good quality control and reasonable prices. The LN line are Gitzo copies and the LS are mostly RRS copies with cosmetic design differences. These guys are smart, they learned from the Sirui misfortune when RRS got them banned from selling identical physical copies in the US. The LS line is thought to be a better product than the LN line.
