Been looking into getting a new walkaround lens for a trip to LA. Id been working with a Sigma 18-200 but its just not sharp enough for me. I was considering the Canon 24-105 F4 but wanted to consider alternative mid range zooms due to the distortion at 24mm I keep reading about. Has anyone checked out the Sigma 24-70, theres one on ebay for like $350. I was thinking of going Canon 24-70 2.8 but at around $700 that may be a little much since I only use this range on vacation. Any input would be awesome, or other lens recommendations. Trying to stay around 500

However, they do have a 24-70 f2.8 just not the OS version but I think it quite pricy compared to the budget mentioned. There is a 17-70 f2.8-4 OS that is currently shown at $400 on Sigma's website... http://www.sigmaphoto.com …m-f28-4-dc-macro-os-hsm-c (external link)

Actually since the OP has a 60D which is cropped format he might be better with the 17-70. I've found that 24mm can be a bit "long" on the cropped format.

I had the 17-70 contemporary from sigma. I found it was a great lens. Sharp through whole range. Only reason I got rid of it was going back to 1D3
The sigma 17-50 2.8 OS is also a great choice

The Tamron has peaked my attention for sharpness. I want stabilization as well for my kiddo. Seems the Sigma is last in most comparisons. I don't want to make the decision based solely on my current body because I get new gear all the time and may end up with a FF body soon. Just got rid of a 5D MKII in fact. Thanks for the advise ill look into that 17-50, but if I can get the price close I may just pull the trigger on something more expensive. Great stuff guys, thanks

I'll second this Jake. I bought the 18-135 STM for shooting videos with. Found it very useful as a general purpose and travel lens. Big bang for your buck.
