Heading to a car show Sunday at an Airport with the Canon EOS M3. I currently have the 22mm and picking up the 50mm f1.8 STM hopefully tomorrow. I was thinking either the 100mm L Macro, 70-200 f4, couple Primes, or another wide angle like the 17-40mm. Budget is $1,000.

Something wider would give you an interesting perspective -- maybe an EFS 10-22mm or the EFS 10-18mm IS.

I took this with a 28mm f/1.8 on a 5D3, so something around 17mm on your M3 or 7D2 would provide a similar perspective.

I use a 24mm on a Canon 5DMIII. Something similar to that would work great with your camera.

On an M3, maybe the EF-m 11-22IS? Although not sure how quickly you could get it

I find the 22mm to be a lot better than the 18-55mm. Thanks though.

I wouldn't have it in time however i did use the 10-18 STM with the EF Adapter when reviewing the EOS M3. It was great and my local best by has it. It's only $249 though, Still got some room left in my budget. I would go with the 16-35 f4 but just slightly over budget.

I wasn't suggesting that you should use the kit lens. I was suggesting a range of focal lengths that would be best for car shows & that the kit lens would work just fine. Car shows are usually crowded & I doubt that you'll have much use for the 70-200 there, except maybe for rear shots where a WA will distort the look of the tires.

Almost sounds like a case of GAS and this car show is the "justification" ;)

I think a large percentage of POTN users resemble that remark. Just change car show for, soccer match, wedding invitation, birth of new child, Disney trip, etc, etc as the case may be.

The idiosyncratic extreme low angle was used to isolate the subjects at crowded shows.

The low angle was made easier by using LiveView framing through the articulated screen of a Canon 60D.

I'm sure it does fine but Hence why i was suggesting the 17-40 which i would take over a kit lens any day unless its the 24-105.

I have used the 18-55mm for a Car show before, The EF-M 18-55 distorts like crazy and lacks sharpness. I prefer Primes or a good L Lens.
