I just sold my 40 after picking up the 50. And I also have the 24 STM, from what I noticed while shooting the 40 is a great lens and is sharp wide open @ 2.8. With that in mind the 50 is just as sharp when shooting @ 2.8 or even wider if needed. I only sold the 40 because it seemed a bit odd to have a 40 and a 50, and I bought the 50 for the times when I might need a little more LL capability. I love the STM lenses and i have gotten great shots with the 24, 40, and the 50.

The 24 STM is a great lens for crop bodies IMO.

If you really want a small lens and don't need the f/1.8 aperture, then maybe the 40mm STM would be your choice.

Just got the 50mm yesterday, I'm looking formward to try it this weekend. Now I have both 40mm and 50mm, I'm very curious how they compare because 40mm is probably ma favorite lens, sharp and tiny in size.

Just picked mine up this arvo. Have browsed through the thread, but haven't spotted this, but is the lens correction data available yet for this lens in DPP? Sorry if I've missed it & has been posted. Oh yeah, love it so far. AF seems dead nuts on accurate & consistent wide open. Taken 30 odd test type shots mostly in lowish light with it so far on my 6D, & yet to even remotely look like missing focus. Off to a great start I think it's already nudging the 40 pancake out of prime position in my camera bag
