I guess I got lucky. She hovered there just long enough to get focus. Thanks for the compliments.

Here is a series I shot to test the STM AF at 5fps in AI Servo, wide open at f/1.8

The car was doing about 40mph (about 70km/h) and it seemed to track it well.

Annoying our Akita, Maximus, w the new 50 1.8 STM
With his dark mask, it is a little difficult to focus on his eyes.

Was the only lens I took to a wedding this weekend. 1134 pictures and about 80% were keepers. Those that weren't, were mostly user error. Definitely happy with my purchase. The hardest part was deciding to leave all the other lenses at home so that I was forced to use the 50. Never realized how handy the focal length really was. I didn't feel cramped or short at all at this moderately sized venue, West London Hotel Hollywood.

One of the more challenging shots it took. AI-Servo high contrast backlight and although I had my speedlite, I don't think that it was used for this image. Shadows were obviously brought way up in post.

I ordered the hood for this lens on the same day I bought the lens (about a month ago, now). I just called the camera shop and asked them what the status is and they claim it is still on backorder and will likely be another 2-3 weeks. Anyone know what the deal is with the hood? Am I the only one waiting this long or has Canon not released it yet?

The hood has been available from different sources since May. I got mine from B&H when I bought the lens in May.

Canon's well known for not treating their smaller dealers right. You get priority on inventory based on your sales volume, and you make nickels per sale. The margins are also so low on certain items that the dealer loses money if the payment is via credit card. They also have a pattern for not liking to send out inventory when their monthly sales expectations have been reached, no matter what the demand or supply is. Nikon and Sony, on the other hand, whore out their wares like mad.
