there's no way to retract it back in.

I just push it back in if I'm concerned.

Just got my copy yesterday. This is 1 of the first shots I took with it. Seems to be a great focal length for indoor snapshots of the cats and my daughter. The small depth of field is insane. I LOVE that aspect of this lens. Main reason I picked it up. I look forward to getting out with it and seeing what it can really do!

I'm worried I'd break the AF motor as I had a friend do that with his 1.8 II.

But I suppose with how low price the 1.8 STM is, I could just buy a new one.

Some of the newer cameras have the option to have it retract when the camera is powered down. The 50 isn't the only lens to do this and many people just push them in. I haven't really heard if it causing any problems.

Got out to shoot with the thing today. Nice shot of the trucks on a railcar parked on a siding near where I was shooting trains. I prefer my 70-300 for shooting the moving trains however. Not that the 50 is bad, just not my preference.
