I need new triggers

Hello,

My Pocket Wizard Plus II's are getting old and I need new triggers.

My Gear:

Canon 5D MkIII
2 Canon Speed lights 550EX and 580 EX II

1Einstein 640
2 Whitelightnings
1 Alien Bees

I do studio work but I want to venture into HSS with speed lights.

I read a lot about the new pocket wizards, is there something out there that will fire HSS Speed lights and my strobes in the studio?

I've never used anything but Canon Speedlights. Lately, I have been considering the Yongnuo YN-622c radio relays. They seem to do everything. Lots of folks seem to like them. I know nothing about your other lighting equipment.

Hi, Consider Phottix Odin triggers. They are sublime with your 5DIII, 550Ex & 580ExII - including HSS.

The Odin TCU also triggers (non-TTL) Strato II receivers. So you would need 4 Strato II Rxs for your Strobes offering low latency triggering but no remote power setting. (If you didn't use Speedlites in the studio, you would only need 2, as your 2 Odin Rxs can dumb down to simple 'fire now' duty when required.)

I have the 622cs and I feel like it's inconsistent it could be user error, but even tho both should be able to be used as a receiver or a trigger, I find that I have to use one as a trigger all the time to get consistent results/flashes. It could be a connection problem with the pins, but I'd rather not find out. I'll put them on CL and try to get some of my $$ back. They are good when I have the correct transceiver on my camera.

Phottix Odin will do it all. I use the cheap atlas receivers to trigger my strobes.

Another for the Odins. Use them on my speedlights and monolights. Never miss a beat.

Just me a thought, but while the Odins and 622s can offer you HSS/TTL with the speedlights, they don't offer you remote power control over your studio strobes.

You may want to consider looking at the RadioPopper Jr2 units, which can remote power control not only TTL-capable flashes, but also the Paul Buff studio strobes (White Lightning, AlienBee, and (if you get the Einstein reciever) Einsteins). You could also add Px units for TTL/HSS with speedlights, and they'll be compatible with the Jr2/Nano. In addition, if you have an older Sekonic meter, they've got a module for those, too.

Just saying, if you went for PocketWizards to get a more robust full-featured triggering system, and you're not afraid of higher price tags, then maybe RadioPoppers are worth looking at.

622c with the 622-tx on camera works flawlessly with my YN flashes and my 430ex, tho I cannot manually control the 430ex wirelessly since it doesn't support it I have zero problems using it in ettl.
