I'd prefer to have something a bit more robust.

Jun 04, 2015 16:35 | #45 Heya, Above is the cheestastand with 2 coke cans in the counter weight bag, holding the boom up high with a yongnuo 560III with generic battery pack attached, 1/4th CTO Gel on the flash, with 43" westscott umbrella. Decent breeze going and it felt rock solid. I know I'll need more counter weight when I move to my strobe and octa. I have bungees & stakes for that too to ensure stability when that time comes. Camera is a 5D with an EF 85 F1.8, with a 3 stop ND filter on (Marumi 3 stop) and rubber lens hood. Yongnuo RF603C transceiver, and I'm using a remote trigger to trip the camera so I can "selfie" test. It's about 4pm, very bright out (Florida) with sun behind where I'll be sitting, so back lit very strongly. Here's the image with no filters, no flash, and shutter to normal exposure of what the subject would be (me). Sky is blown out of course at wide aperture (F2.8 here). IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/tRss6z Here's the image with the 3 stop ND filter onboard, and I opened the aperture to F2 to get a little more light back. I now have the sky thanks to the ND filter preserved better and ambient light is dropped below sunny 16 standards. You can see the backlighting from the sun. It's my free rim light. The rest is full flash exposure from the speedlite through the umbrella suspended above me to camera right, acting as fill. I think it's obvious to see the difference between the bleaching sun on my shirt and the fill light from the flash doing the rest of the work. I think I was able to match the flash & gel to ambient light enough for it to not look like obvious "flash" but rather just filled in. Could use critique on that from anyone! IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/u8UBni Can't wait to get the strobe back in working condition. The flash was barely able to muscle through at 1/1 power, with the gel & umbrella at decently close distance. Very best,
