I got a question about the lens hood for this lens. I read somewhere that using the hood for the 17-55IS is better for crop cameras. Why is that? i have the original and have a adorama version for the 17-55IS . Been using them both on and off and cant tell the difference. The 17-55 one is quite a bit bigger and longer. Does it matter which i use?

Just use the one that came with the 24-105. Whatever people are saying about using the 17-55 hood is a load of crap.

I agree, just use the one that comes with the lens. I do and it works at all focal lengths.

Does this lens have flare problem ?

lenstip review indicate this lens has flare problem. Canon is willing to calibrate the lens for free to fix flare issue.

Those were the first batch made with a date code of UT1000 or under. I haven't had any problems with flare.

f8, close to minimum focusing distance @ 105mm (ie "macro mode") for those interested.

I'm suprised the mouse didn't run off after the flash from the bulbs.

First few shots from my new 24-105 lens on 1000D body

I have just one question to ask to the users of this lens. I had considered the overall weight this lens will put on my shoulders, but had not thought of front trying to pull downwards by the sheer weight of the lens since mine is a lighter body comparatively. Are there better neck straps that can keep the unit more balanced. Or i have to go for a battery grip which i want to avoid at this time.

I don't think it matters if you have the grip or not, it will pull downwards anyway, specially if you use the strap on the grip (it does even with the 18-55IS).

But you should get a more comfortable neoprene strap.
