I've read that this lens would start at the 34"? 38"? wide angle on a crop sensor. This kinda scares me since I'm not sure if that's wide enough for an all-around zoom. Also, the f4 would seem to be a bummer with low light conditions?

yeah its meant as a wide angle all purpose on a FF body. I had the 15-85 which I loved - especially for the wide - except I found for my style of shooting - I rarely shoot really wide so I opted for the 24-105 for the increased long end, which the f/4 comes in handy for.

Sounds like you may wish the 15-85 or the 17-55 f/2.8 - all three of these lenses are excellent zooms, comes down to shooting styles

This lens is always either on my 7D or my 100D :D like you say its got such a nice range to it, also it seems to suit my general style of shooting!

I'd also rather invest in decent lenses that will not be redundant when I eventually get a full frame ;)

very true. would anyone have any sample pictures shot with a crop sensor and this lens? I've been scrolling through the pages in this topic and all I can see are users with 5d's

The couple I've added are. On my Flickr they'll either be that or my 60mm

All from the 40d except some of the really older ones which are a 20d.

All have been put through lightroom with some sharpening applied.

as much as I drool over the idea of a 24-70 2.8, this lens continues to impress!
