I use f/4 if my shot calls for it, as its been sharp enough for me... could likely count on one hand how many shots have been 4.5, 5, or 5.6.

I've used 8-22 various times as I don't have an ND filter

f/22 using an ext tube

... not sure why I sued f/22  surely f/14 would have been fine...

just slow shutter speed on a tripod. i made mistake on the first shot by leaving the IS on. i try to keep my aperture above 6 (6 and bigger number) with this lens. i would like to know how this lens compare with 24-70 mk ii at smaller aperture (6 and above)

how is that a mistake? serious question
does it mess with the image quality?

Generally, it's advised to turn your IS off when using a tripod, unless you have a lens that "automatically detects" a tripod mounting (which I don't believe the 24-105 does). This is for two reasons: first to prevent the lens IS from needlessly "searching" for movement, and second because after a bit the IS can "shut down", which can actually cause a bit of "shift".

I'll say, though, in longer focal lengths, I've left IS on with a tripod, if I need to keep "hands on" operation, but with the 24-105 I just don't need a tripod unless I'm doing a landscape, then I turn the IS off!

I've gotten that as well, although if I ignore the warning nothing happens!

what program is alerting you?

it makes me wonder if there is an image hosting site that some folks are using that red-flags the software you use

Avast anti virus, but when it happened last time, the other person it happened to, had different virus protection to me.

It's a different message this time, but it flags the url of a jpg as being malicious, and only ever on this thread.
