OuterHeaven that shot is nice!

Thank you so much!!

I have a question: my image in the view finder of my 24-105 seems to jump side-to-side when I focus.
I provide a short video, I have set it to 105mm, on a sturdy tripod, live view with 10x magnification:

Is this normal? I have a 35mm f/2 IS USM (newer IS) and this does not happen at all!
Thank you for your help.
Marco

It's the Image Stabilization (IS) doing what it's supposed to do.

Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.

Turn off IS if using a tripod or fixed mount, as this casues the IS system as mentioned to "do what it's supposed to do".

I see this also in my 24-105. Normal phenomenon of the IS "jumping" when starting as far as I know!

No, it is not normal at all. None of my lenses does that, unless:

1. IS switched on or in the wrong mode (mode 1 while panning)
2. Mounted on a tripod

Cheers.

I think this explains what is going on...

Canon IS (external link)

Note - it's split over 2 pages.

If this is correct, it should not be necessary to switch off IS when using the 24-105 on a tripod (though I habitually do). On my own copy (IS on) I can't detect any initial movement hand-holding, but putting it on a tripod I can see a very slight shift when IS operates.
