I'm tempted to rent or buy the 16-35mm f 4.0 IS for an upcoming trip and then I see this and think nope.

It might not be a bad idea, I do have the 17-40 and I used it for a few shots as well. It wouldn't have been very useful here because this was taken at 65mm and is a pano of 3 or 4 shots I think.

Most likely. I have a pile of 35/120 film that I randomly pick a few rolls from and send to my lab every month or so. I like the element of surprise and keeps fresh and varied material rolling in. I haven't had any 120 film come back yet with those Yosemite shots.
