Is it possible to add a longer bolt to my quick release plate so that it's long enough to go through my L-bracket and then into the camera? Currently the L-bracket screws into my camera and the quick release into the L-bracket and I find that it doesn't feel secure and has a tendency to swivel.

What kind of quick release are you using that you need a separate plate attached to your L bracket? Most L brackets are designed to fit any Arca-Swiss clamp. Having to attach a QR plate to your L bracket wouldn't let you take advantage of the L for portrait orientation unless you mounted another QR plate there. But any hardware store will probably carry 1/4"-20 thread screws in assorted lengths for your purpose. It'd cost a bunch, but RRS also sells assorted lengths of them.

I have a Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT tripod with PH-32 head. The bracket I'm trying to use is just a cheap bracket I picked up on Amazon for when I do macro work. I don't feel comfortable when I have my tripod on strange angles because despite tightening everything down the camera tends to swivel a bit which throws off my composition. If the bolt was longer I'd remove the bolt from the bracket and go through it and into the camera which would make things much better.

Flash bracket, not "L" Bracket, that's the confusion. An "L" Bracket is the quick release plate.

The bolt you want is 1/4" 20 thread. Tons of them at your local hardware or home improvement store. You would need to figure out the length you need, I'd bring the one with the QR plate to the store and just get one the next size longer.

Sorry about the confusion. I think I just found an easier solution. I'll leave the QR plate as is and screw that into my macro focus rail. I removed the bolt from the flash bracket and now just need to get a longer bolt for the focus rail so that it goes through the flash bracket and into the camera making a more secure fit.

If the bolt is tight but mounting bracket is still loose the bolt might be to long and the bolt is bottoming out.
Adding a longer bolt could damage your camera.

Thanks for the reply. Here's what I came up with... I went to the hardware store and bought a bolt with a wingnut attached so that I could use it to tighten it and some washers. I looked on my QR to determine how much of a threaded section there was and grinded rest of the threads off with my dremel so that it would move front and back in the macro focus rail slot and also so that the flash bracket could be adjusted before I tighten it down. Then I added a few washers where it goes through the focus rail so that the amount of threads above the flash bracket is the correct height for the camera. I will probably take one more thread off the bolt and then smoothen it up a bit so it slides better. I also ordered 2 threaded cold shoe adapters that will allow me to attach a ball head and flash to the bracket so that I could adjust flash placement for my macro shots. It's very sturdy now.

Sorry about the bad cellphone pics...
