I learned that you can't always trust the histogram. I shot a wedding and.the lcd looked fine, the histogram looked fine, but on my.pc it was underexposed by 2 steps or thereabouts. The reason was that the camera saw the white background and darkened.it. I should have dialled in a stop lighter to compensate.

Lol, love that, Mike! I turned to AV mode a little less than a year ago after watching a lot of Susan Stripling (whom I adore) classes on Creative Live; it's really helped me get more useable images more quickly during a wedding (I still use M with OCF for the reception) but as you said, every now then one of these crazy images pops up. I see my problem is thinking that AV will *always* get that perfect shot.

Yeah, leaving that EC setting was a mistake from when we left the chapel, I forgot to change it. And yes, I've stopped using the spot metering. I do need to take the time to just go play around & experiment, the problem is finding the time! But I've got to. Thanks!
