Hello, I have a 498rc2, and some time ago one of my kids unscrewed the locking lever for the ball head. This caused _something_ to come out, as putting the level back in, and screwing it down no longer locks it. It looks like the end of the screw/lever is hollow, and something else went into it.

I've tried contacting Manfrotto via their email form at: http://www.manfrotto.us/Service/Spare+Parts (external link) on four different occasions over the past few months, and have yet to hear a reply back. Does anyone know where else I might be able to order parts, or an alternate way to get a hold of them in order to replace a part?

Here is an exploded diagram that may help you find what you need:

You should be able to get what you need here:

Not local to you unfortunately.

Thank you so much, I had the exploded view from what I perceived to be the Manfrotto site, but couldn't actually order anything from them.

Oh so it sounds their service is quite different from country to country.
Here in Germany the flash company "Multiblitz" had the service for several years. It was great, I even got parts for a 15 years old 055 tripod very fast, easy and cheap.
But until now I have no expereience with their new service.

What did you use as 'the Manfrotto site'...did you use the Manfrotto site for the US, the former 'Bogen Imaging' now 'Manfrotto Distribution'? there is a link that takes you specifically to Gitzo US, then to Service, Spare parts

I started my path at: http://www.manfrotto.us/Service/Spare+Parts (external link)

At some point B&H started carrying the part though, when searching for the part number one last time (trying to find something w/o having to wait from shipping from europe, and w/o having to pay extra due to the dollars weakness against the pound) I found that B&H had this particular part available. I had searched B&H before as one of my first sources, and they didn't have them. That was a couple of months ago (when I gave up trying for awhile because the site I listed first in this post never replied!). This time I eventally got an email reply from them, however the part had already arrived from B&H (standard free shipping) before the generic email response.
