Do you think it is fixable? Is it WORTH fixing? It won't auto focus and manual focus won't work either. It's very hard to turn the focus. Canon 35mm f/2 EF. Fortunately, the camera body is fine. Really bummed because this was my only lens and I don't really have a budget for new stuff right now. Will probably go to a kit lens or 50mm f/1.8 to hold me over :-(

You could send it to Canon or a 3rd party repair shop for a no obligation estimate. Then you'd know for sure.

I'd look around for a 2nd hand Canon, or a new Yongnuo 35mm F/2. I think those will be cheaper than the repair.

Heya,

Yeap, Yongnuo 35 F2. $115 new. Very, very similar lens. Worth checking out until later if on a tight budget and you want to stick to 35mm.

Very best,

Don't get the old 50mm 1.8 II. Get the new 50mm 1.8 STM instead. ($125)
50mm is a bit too long for your only lens on a crop camera.

I would also consider:

EF-S 18-55 STM
used EF 35mm 2.0
Yongnuo 35mm 2.0
EF-S 24mm 2.8 STM

Very best,

Where can you get a Y 35 F2 for $115 The cheapest I have seen is $150 and most are over $200. Read an article somewhere about price gouging due to its popularity

Looks like your lens housing has been knocked in on one side. If nothing has broken inside, this should be easy to fix.

The fact that it's jammed is good news. Probably knocked out of synch at the thread section. Whatever you do, do not force it. If you're lucky, it's just a matter of realigning the threaded section inside.

That's the good thing about plastic lenses. Easy to knock back into place. Pun intended.

it'll cost $120 to fix it from canon...you're not going to really find a cheaper way to get a 35f2...

Thank you all so much! I decided to buy the YONGNUO 35mm from Amazon and attempt to repair the Canon one myself.
