I m looking to upgrade my crop body. I have a t3i and switching between that and my 5dii is tough. The controls are so different it's frustrating. I spend most of my time photographing wildlife, birds, and landscapes. I'm hoping to spend around 400-500. How do the 60d, 70d and 7dmk1 compare. Thanks. Cole

7D will be the closest to the 5D3 as far as controls. ( 7D2 is ever better in that regard :) near identical with some strong advantages and improvements over the 5D3 )

For wildlife and birds I guess the 7D due 8fps vs 70D's 7fps. Also the 7D has better buffer.

BUUUUT, if you like flip-out-screen and a fast live view focus which both should come in hand when you shot landscapes, the 70D is the answer.

+1

The 70D is also great for wildlife. I spent months comparing the 7D and 70D and eventually ended up with the 70D and do NOT regret it! Look at some non-biased comparisons between the 7D & 70D and decide what qualities are important to you. There are some threads on here as well comparing the two.

I Chose the 70D because of the autofocus and the video capabilities... I have no experience with the 7D I went entirely on specifications and online reviews.

I went with the 70D because of the flipout screen and all the other features that 7D is missing such as WIFI, etc. Also, no fun buying a 3 year old cam (now 6)

I totally forgot about WIFI! lol
I love my WIFI! Sounds lame, but I use it for selfies with my wife and dog when we hike. I strap my UltraPod to a tree and use WIFI to frame it and focus from my phone!

70D is the best choice for landscape because the flipout screen and the quick liveview focus are very handy when using a tripod.

Focusing system is about the same as the 7D but it has 1fps less. So with the 7D is a bit easier to catch the decisive moment so is better for wildlife. As for the 60D it has even less fps and has the worse autofocus system so it's the worse choice. But is the cheapest and is perfectly usable for the uses you need.

The OP has a budget of $500. While the 70D, 7D or the 7DII are superior cameras none of them fall within this budget. A used 60D is the only one anywhere near this price. The OP will need to increase the amount he wants to spend or stick with the 60D,

Yea, I ignored that on purpose. Either he didn't do ANY research or he is hoping to get a GREAT deal! lol

I found numerous used 7D for $500 or less when I was shopping for a crop body last month. I ended up getting a like-new 60D for $399 shipped from B&H. For $75 more Incould have picked up a 7/10 used 7D from Amazon. If I were keeping the body for longer I would have maybe bought the 7D, but for shooting a month's worth of kids sports and an event the 60D was good to go.

Like with everything, YMMV.

I believe you can get a used 7D for within a 500 budget. especially since the MkII is out. so if money is the deciding factor a relativly mint 60D or a quite used 7D

In these parameters Id probablly choose the 60D because of the flip screen.

thanks everyone. After my research, I'd like to get the 70d I believe. Just a few extra hours of OT and I'll get one. Suppose I need to sell the T3i! Again, thanks for all the options and advice.
