For those that don't know, Formula SAE is a competition between universities to build the absolute best autocross car they can while sticking to a set of rules (the "formula") as set by the ruling body. These rules include a weight (sans driver) of less than 500 lbs, a displacement of less than 610CC, and an air intake restrictor size of 20mm. Over 100 teams face off every year at multiple competitions which test every portion of the car's performance as well as it's design and construction.
I am an alumni of Missouri S&T's team, and we have only ever really had good pictures taken of the car once, so I decided to change that (and I wanted the car in my portfolio!). I offered to donate my services and shoot their "unveiling" photos for this year, which will also be used to drum up sponsorships for next season.
Unfortunately, I only had about an hour and 15 minutes to shoot all of these images before the regional airport that we were shooting at shut down. This was further shortened because we had to wait on the new body panels to arrive from the bodyshop. This shoot was the first time anyone on the team had ever seen the car (mostly) complete and sporting it's new livery. It was cool to see their reactions to the culmination of a full year and thousands of working-hours dedicated to this car.
