Hey all,

I joined POTN back in 2007, when I was at the height of my digital "revolution", and it has been a great time!

So, the new Amass software offers the feature of a "gallery", and that's cool, we can share our collections!

Well, but, over the past year I've experienced some "difficulties", physical disabilities and other complications, and I haven't been out to shoot in recent months, in fact, I own three digital cameras, but they all abide in a residence in which I no longer live and have limited access to...

But that's another story...

What I'm suggesting in this post is that we create a thread in some forum here where some of us who have some history in photography can post pics and then add them to our gallery. As it is, you have to post to a thread to add a pic to your gallery, and though I have a number that I posted in POTN none show up in my gallery (not complaining here, just commenting), but it would be cool...

So, what do you think, and what forum could we put this in???

But I thought you could add any images to your gallery (even if posted pre-AMASS), so long as you go back and input the minimum required metadata.

OK, I didn't know that, like I said, I've been pretty messed up, do you have a link?

But I did think it might be cool to have a thread dedicated to "classics"/favorites that we could post and then add to our AMASS Galleries!

No link, but if you review any of your posted images there should be something in the upper left hand corner prompting you to add metadata/add to gallery. I think the minimum info is camera and lens. If either is unavailable from the gear menu, you can fudge that info.

BTW, I am NOT the most knowledgeable source on this.

OK, I see individual pic posts with the "ADD TO YOUR GALLERY" tag, I'm thinking about a thread where people could post and "ADD" without having to browse/search through POTN if they have another gallery/library that they could choose from!!

Is there a way to re-share an image already in your gallery? I can't seem to figure it out, I would imagine it is possible.

Correct. Camera and lens is needed, for fixed lens cameras only the camera is needed.

FYI: With version 1.33 you can get all photos in a post checked automatically for exif by simply editing the post (no editing needed) and submitting it.

Later I'll do a full EXIF scan of all images in POTN and then members will in FYEO see a list of images that they can add to gallery right away and list of images that need manual metadata editing.

Not yet, but it is high on my todo list (add photo from your gallery to a post). It's not a simple "copy url" coding type of thing, but a virtual copy of a gallery photo (including gallery removal detection) with metadata and a picker tool in post editor, so it is not a five-minute job. After version 1.33 is out I'll do those other things on the list.

Awesome! I was worried I was asking a very boneheaded question. I can wait, I really like lots of things about the new digs.

Is there a way to search for all photos we've posted over the years?

Cool! Due to the stresses of my life over the past bunch of time, I haven't gotten to really explore things, but things have quieted down "a bit" (not much "action", but I do have the Internet, which had been lacking for several months) so, bit by bit I hope to catch up and hopefully keep up, at ;east until the next life crisis smashes me!

OK, back to one of my questions:

Suppose we have an image in our gallery that we haven't don't feel comfortable about "fitting" it into a particular thread, but we value the photo and would like to put it into our AMASS gallery without it being posted to a specific thread.

I had thought of there being a "Gallery Post" thread, but I wouldn't want it to gobble up band-width...

So, is there a way to add photos to our gallery that aren't presently on a POTN/AMASS thread by, say, uploading directly to the gallery? And, say we resize an image in our library to the new image size "rules" that is in a POTN thread in the "old" size, what would be the best way to get the new size into the gallery?

You are basically asking here for POTN to become a photo hosting service. That's not likely to happen any time soon.

And, say we resize an image in our library to the new image size "rules" that is in a POTN thread in the "old" size, what would be the best way to get the new size into the gallery?

Not sure I understand you correctly, but if you want to replace an image in your gallery with a bigger version of it, you will have to delete the old image and then add the new one.

It's good to see you back, Tony!

As Levina said, the galleries are not just a photo storage, but essentially a directory of your best images in your posts. This has many advantages, like

- one cool gallery photo in a post gets people to see the other (seven) there.
- the post where the photo is may contain a back story, how-tos, other similar photos on that page.
- the forum and the thread title of a gallery photo acts as "folder" where the photo is (not that we'll get some folder features later).
- forum filtering is applied to galleries: people who do not want to see G&N get no G&N photos anywhere in galleries. By requiring that photos in gallery belong to a post, we have means to make that work.

I have no objection that you repost your good photos under a suitable thread or create new threads for them. Having updated versions or better quality versions is a good reason. We're not pedant with these things :)
