A thread to discuss and share photos taken with Sony's A7x line of cameras. Given the lens-specific or body-specific nature of the other threads in this Sony sub-forum, it makes sense to have a more general are where discussions, knowledge-sharing, photo-sharing and general lounging are accepted and encouraged.

Try to mention camera and lens when posting photos.

I'll get the thread started with a shot taken in downtown LA this past weekend.

Thanks for starting this up Nadim. Hopefully this cleans up the ambiguity of "the other thread"

So I impulsively bought an A7II from Best Buy today. Got a good deal on it, with a bunch of freebies including a spare NPFW50, 64gb SD card, and a lowepro sling bag to sweeten the deal. I'll post a comparison between this and the a7r tomorrow, as I make a decision on which camera to proceed with.

I suspect you'll love the a7II. The IBIS alone is worth the upgrade. Yes. I said upgrade. Besides the 36MP Rez, the A7II is the superior camera in ever way.

A couple of wonderful images to kick off the new lounge. :) Love that dynamic shot of the LA downtown, and a terrific wedding day capture there with the FE 70-200mm!

I've got my FE 70-200mm up on the FM forum for sale, along with the FE 16-35mm. Tomorrow the 24-70mm goes up. It's not that I don't love them, but at last I've finally figured out my lens choices. Super simple; just going with my three Zeiss lenses (21, 55, 135) and the new 11-24mm. Gonna make it all happen with that minimal kit. :)

Agree with you David. Fantastic wedding shot, Vinz.

I started researching Zeiss because I think that's where I want to be too. I did this before knowing you had arrived at a decision regarding your lens roadmap, David. Just wish they weren't so expensive. :)

I envy your 11-24 lens. That thing is a beast.

How does the Zeiss 55 compare to the FE 55, which is one of my favorite lenses.

BTW, big thanks to everyone for contributing your thoughts and ideas about lens choices. I had come up with a bunch of different schemes, but I got a lot of "that's too many lenses" replies; especially from Lee and Charlie. Awesome; I've whittled it done to what are my essential go-to lenses. Nadim questioned the zooms, now they're going bye-bye (ok, the 11-24mm is a zoom, but man it is insanely great!). Jocau suggested going with quality over quantity; I soaked that up like a sponge. So, thanks to each of you. Believe it or don't, but I'm feeling pretty dogone settled right now.

I'm going to hold off on selling the TS-E 17mm for a few more weeks. Need more time with the 11-24mm to make sure I can part with it. Think I can. :)

The Zeiss (Canon or Nikon mount) lenses are superb imo; I've long been a huge fan. I really do wish that I could add a few more. I'm really impressed with the review that Lloyd Chambers has been developing on the new Batis line of Zeiss lenses. Chambers is actually suggesting that they are superior to any of the Canon or Nikon-mount Zeiss lenses (except, of course, the Otus 55, 85, and Apo Sonnar 135).

The FE 55mm f/1.8 compares quite favorably in some ways to the Otus 55mm. Center sharpness is right there. The Otus 55mm just takes everything to extremes. Most elegant bokeh I have ever seen from a 50ish mm lens. It's so good it has spoiled me rotten. And then there is the almost complete lack of any color abnormalities: near zero CA, etc. Zeiss really has designed the Otus lenses with a no-compromises mentality. But, for us users there are a few pretty important compromises: 1. crazy expensive, 2. very big, and 3. very heavy.

And those compromises, frankly, are true of all the lenses I have elected to go forward with. And to that end, to give myself a break, I may also try to sneak in that marvelous little FE 28mm for a sweet little walk-around. I love the focal length, the fact that it's a stop faster than the sharp little FE 35mm f/2.8 ZA, and it's not a budget-buster. If I wait a little while, used ones might start popping up for sale at really nice low price. :)
