Speaking of photos like that, I recently purchased the Elia Locardi training "Photographing the World - Cityscapes" on F-Stoppers. Not very advanced stuff, but it does do one immensely valuable thing for me: super-motivates me. I just booked a two week camp trip to Charleston, SC and can't wait to be doing some cityscape and architecture shooting there.

Nice! I will probably get that training in a year. The second half is supposedly more advanced. I watched all of the behind episodes on YouTube. Funny stuff. Production value of the training appears to be quite high hence the high cost.

For those wondering if the FE 16-35mm is any good......well, what do you think: https://www.flickr.com …/in/photostream/lightbox/ (external link)

I'd say freaking WOW. :)

Stunning shot! I followed him last year. Awesome photographer.

Up at 3 A.M. to celebrate the Salubong Procession...filipino traditional re-enactment of the first meeting of Jesus and Mary after his resurrection...which apparently happened at 3:30 in the morning...

Finally got the boss's approval to get the Loxia 21. Selling my Canon 35L f1.4. Probably go with B&H for the return policy in the event my copy is poor.

I'm also considering selling my Canon 16-35L II for the FE version. Some of my favorite landscape pros use it so if it works for them, I should try it. I just love the star burts on my EF version though. The Loxia 21 will fit that need I think.

Yes, just get the Cityscapes one. Based on what I have read and from my experience with the Cityscape edition, the first volume (landscapes) is probably to remedial for you and me. Even in the second one I'm pulling my hair out sometimes with frustration over a few of his obvious mistakes and lack of knowledge.

But, for me, the technical training aspect of it isn't the best part. The best part is watching a guy who makes a living as a travel photographer do his thing...that is super inspiring and motivating to me. So on the technical training side I would score the training a 7 out of 10 - it's got some very nice helpful stuff, but mostly not outside outside of what I already know. But, for sheer inspiration, I'll score the training a full 10/10. Totally justifies the high price for me. :)

I definitely didn't mean for it to sound like that. Her expression is the same in picture after picture. Very melancholy. I would like to see some joy de vivre! I like photo's that show the subjects personality, dreams, hopes, fears and love.:-)

While i agree with some of your points, this gal knows her best. She's not good at smiling and i tend to agree with her. If you look at high fashion models, most of them don't smile. They call it high fashion look. Again smile is just one of the many expressions.

So, will there be any D. Arbogast training films in our future too? ;-)a

Thanks Alfredo. It's a very nice lens indeed. I'm actually borrowing it from a friend, who has my Batis 85 at the moment.

Beyond displaying a single expression in all her photos, my only nit is the heavy handed makeup, at least for her eyebrows and lipstick. I'd love to see it scaled back to where it looks more natural. The technical aspects of the images are first class as always.

Haha...Elia's are quite adequate. :)

The locations of his stuff is what is particularly special. I am heading towards Charleston, SC a week from today (2-week camping trip!). Charleston is very lovely, will be my second visit, but Charleston is no Singapore, Rome, Angkor Wat, etc. as in his training. Location (the overall aesthetics of a place) make such an enormous impact with the images. Nonetheless, really hope to get a few goodies in Charleston (and vicinity).

I have no doubt that if you were placed in front of the same locations as Elia, that you could produce equal or if not higher quality images. I'm super jealous of your upcoming trip. In a week, I'll be in Arkansas which is kind of like another country. Haha. Just kidding. It's a very pretty state that I want to explore more.
