Thinking about to sell the CV40, A7S and Fuji x100s to get the RX1RII
The A7S and CV40 was kind of a small camera setup to take with me for summer-memories-style pictures, but that nervous bokeh really annoys me lately. Guess i used the leica too much... Then i used the fuji x100s and the dynamic range and the fiddly controls is really like 5 steps back to what im used to. Feels like a toy and doesnt give me any joy while shooting.
So i thought i might just as well sell those three things as i really just use the A7S and CV40 for casual shooting when with friends etc.
What do you guys think?
I got the RX1RII for the same reason you did....not wanting to compromise when shooting casually...because those are often the most important photos to me personally, and because sometimes the best shots happen unexpectedly when you happen to have your camera on you.
I'm happy with the decision. The IQ is identical to the a7rII, so I never find myself missing my 'main camera' when I'm out with the RX1RII. The 35mm lens is also very good...'only' f2, but good enough that I was comfortable selling the FE 35 1.4 to partially fund this. I haven't owned the RX1RII for too long, but have already taken a few shots I would not have otherwise taken....and that's where the value of the camera makes sense.
In terms of handling...it does at times feel like a toy. Its the price you pay for having a camera this size. I don't personally think its a bad think in the context of the RX1RII's intended purpose. Toy=fun. And its a lot of fun to use because it's easy to incorporate into a casual day out. But yes the controls are cramped, and you have fewer custom buttons so you'll have to toggle a few more things here and there than you would on the a7rII.
If you don't need the resolution, AF system, or low light capabilities of the sensor, I'd look into the MK1 as they can be had for very attractive prices these days.
