Glad your finding them better than I did on the Sony, and nice shot!.

With regards to Orlando camera gear im already wondering if a camera and multiple lenses would be a PITA at the theme parks so thinking do I need a zoom? Will my Fuji X100T be the ticket on those days? so many things to sort out and thats just for camera stuff :)

We go to the disney parks (Anaheim or Orlando) at least once a year...skipped last year b/c Charlotte was born, but will be going again in June this year. I've brought everything from a one prime set-up to a full bag of gear....depends on what you intend to shoot. If its mostly shots of the family, then a 35mm equivalent FOV set-up is all you need. Looking back at my old albums, the majority of them are at 35mm. If you intend to take photos of the actual parks (which I usually do), you might want to bring something wider. Rarely have I needed anything longer than 50mm though.

The key is to have a good bag. All of the rides can accomodate a bag, so its a matter of how much weight you're willing to carry all day. Assuming Callum is still in a stroller, you can hang your gear on that when walking.

I am in Orlando monthly...might cross paths with your trip...

So, this past weekend I had the 24 TSE and the 17TSE to play with. I was somewhat relieved to see that I was not seeing the horrible jagged edges that Eddie was seeing. I am actually quite happy with the results. Particularly since there is no other way outside of a gigapan setup to get this shot, the building is just too tall and there is no room to shoot and minimize distractions. This is a historic building downtown that the firm I work for renovated and restored a few years ago...it was completely overcast, so I got a little heavy handed with trying to pull texture out of the clouds, its more about the building, and it will get re-shot on a better day. Shot with the 17TSE shifted vertical to the top from center, none to the bottom.

Cool shot.

One of the reasons I nearly sold my a7R II was so I could add more glass. Unfortunately deciding to keep the a7R II comes at a cost: I now need to turn around and sell the TS-E 17mm I just got off FM buy/sell. :( Can't have it all I'm afraid. I do have my own manual version of a Gigapan, so will just have to use that to get shots like this.

Travis, I know you love Charleston; got any tips on your favorite places there? We've only visited once back in 2012. I'll probably focus a lot on the architecture, but will be doing a good bit of landscape shooting too. Looking forward to our 2 weeks there starting on Sunday. :)

Thanks for the input. I think I will take my X100T to the theme parks as it will just be for family stuff and I dont want it to be too bulky. I will have the Sony with me though for all the other stuff. Just need to decide if I go with 16-35, FE 28 & FE55 or if I also bring along the sigma 35 and 85. Also cant work out if I should be taking the tripod and filters too, im thinking yes

EDIT - Then again I could fit my A7RII and 28/55 combo in a really small camera bag for Disney and have IBIS for all the low light stuff unlike the fuji. Hmmm

Get a Leica Q instead :D

Hah, sure! No really, i wouldnt feel confident using a 6000$ camera as an everyday solution, other than that, i like the A7RII files and that makes the RX1R2 a very attractive camera for me...

mystik610 wrote in post #17952024 (external link)
I got the RX1RII for the same reason you did....not wanting to compromise when shooting casually...because those are often the most important photos to me personally, and because sometimes the best shots happen unexpectedly when you happen to have your camera on you.

I'm happy with the decision. The IQ is identical to the a7rII, so I never find myself missing my 'main camera' when I'm out with the RX1RII. The 35mm lens is also very good...'only' f2, but good enough that I was comfortable selling the FE 35 1.4 to partially fund this. I haven't owned the RX1RII for too long, but have already taken a few shots I would not have otherwise taken....and that's where the value of the camera makes sense.

In terms of handling...it does at times feel like a toy. Its the price you pay for having a camera this size. I don't personally think its a bad think in the context of the RX1RII's intended purpose. Toy=fun. And its a lot of fun to use because it's easy to incorporate into a casual day out. But yes the controls are cramped, and you have fewer custom buttons so you'll have to toggle a few more things here and there than you would on the a7rII.

If you don't need the resolution, AF system, or low light capabilities of the sensor, I'd look into the MK1 as they can be had for very attractive prices these days.

Thanks for your thoughts. Thought about the V1 too but i think i would want the A7RII sensor. Also, i think by getting the RX1R2 i would not NEED and WANT my CV40, A7S and fuji anymore. And by sellig those i think im just about there with the price of a new RX1R2. Investment would be like 200$ max so thats like an even trade depending on how well my things sell. I need to get out more first and finish my yearly military service which ends on friday and then ill look into the fun things in life again :)

Going for 2 weeks in either august or september (still to book). My dad wants to take callum to Disneyland and me and the mrs get to go along too :) . I've been to various places in the states but never Florida. Looking forward to a bit of heat as my own climate is cold a lot

If you hit Disney go super early. It's extremely humid down here that time of year. It will be extremely busy there in the summer, so I'd recommend doing some online research and getting fast passes as much as possible to avoid long lines. There are strategies of what rides to hit and when.

There are a lot of nice areas for landscape and wildlife close to Orlando. Do a little research into Kissimmee area.

The Leica Q is only £300 more than the RX1R2 here in the UK. But I understand preference on the files, I'd like to get the Q eventually, I just love the simplicity and the images it can produce.

Did you preorder from Adorama? I'll speak up when I get a shipping notification (I placed mine maybe an hour after they opened it up to preorders on day 1)

(btw... I love that you've already got it on your sig - that's true gearhead excitement right there)

Vin, I know you've got a preorder in on this one. I saw some scuttlebutt on SAR about negative reviews coming from China where the 85GM has just hit the streets. Dug a bit and found this: http://forum.xitek.com/thread-1561504-1-1-1.html (external link)

I'd already been questioning whether I should cancel my preorder, this might push me to do so. Not sure I want to be on the early adoption side of such an expensive lens when there are potential issues. Even before this though, I'd already started thinking about bailing because I'm honestly loving what I'm getting from the Batis. It just keeps impressing me. If it aint broke... Idunno, I'll be watching for new developments on this either way

If you're happy with the Batis 1.8/85 and you've got a good copy, why take the risk? Your wallet will thank you later.

Speaking of photos like that, I recently purchased the Elia Locardi training "Photographing the World - Cityscapes" on F-Stoppers. Not very advanced stuff, but it does do one immensely valuable thing for me: super-motivates me. I just booked a two week camp trip to Charleston, SC and can't wait to be doing some cityscape and architecture shooting there.

In his first video he already gave me crazy GAS. I had a Wacom tablet about 10 years ago or so. The cheapest one (like €25 or €30). Never got used to it. But now he's giving me second thoughts. Maybe I didn't give it a fair chance. Now I want the Intuos Pro Small, but €200 means it's a big gamble...

I think I can justify using the TSE with the Sony, the resolution alone makes it sharper than it is on my 5D2...now, if I had the 5DSr...different story.

Charleston...ah yes, been there many many times. Architecture in treasure troves downtown, there is also the Ravenel Bridge, if you go to the Mount Pleasant side you can walk up and over the bridge. You can drive out to Folly Beach for sunrise and sunset, the North end is good for sunrise, there is a little lighthouse on that end, some good driftwood trees on the beach...good stuff on the Folly Beach Park end on the south too. There is one great dead tree in the sand/surf on that end.

There is also Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, I have not been, but have seen many great images from there. Lake Moultrie is a good spot too, up by Summerville/Moncks Corner.

And of course, there is Edisto Island and Botany Bay...since you will be in the area for two weeks, I would HIGHLY recommend a trip to Botany for sunrise if the conditions are right, a very special place, that won't be like it is for long. Just check DNR sites to make sure its open, and read up on the rules.

I can't hardly work in Photoshop without one. Definitely only get the small one.

My training and work in architecture had me doing a lot of sketching and rendering by hand, so it's a natural for me. In Photoshop need it especially for dodge and burning and for painting layer masks. Some other tasks still feel better with the mouse, so I like both tools.

Excellent; just the tips I was looking for. I'll make a point to check all those out. Last time (only time) we visited, we did drive out to Botany Bay, but they had it closed for a hunt or something...will do better research this time.

Thinking about bringing my e-bike, so I can move around town with my camera more quickly...and Ravenel Bridge looks like fun to bike across.

Thank you! :)
