It's the Smooth Reflections app. I have not tried the Sky HDR app. The Smooth Reflections app simulates long exposure by taking 64 to 256 shots and combines them in the camera. Only negative I can think of is wear and tear on the shutter.

One more reason to use an ND in conjunction. Looks like it works great for ultra wide angles without ND. The raw is amazing, $5 for the app is a bargain for landscape lovers.

Thank you Charlie for introducing the app to us. I have been enjoying it.

I'm going to look into the Lee Seven5 ND kit for my lens. I ordered a 52 to 77mm step up ring from Breakthrough but I don't think I can avoid vignetting with it.

Just a thought here about the Smooth Reflections app and wear and tear on the shutter...any major reason not to just use it in conjunction with the electronic silent shutter? No physical moving parts, right?

I realize there is a slight image quality penalty with the silent shutter, but having used it all the time with the a7S I can't say I ever saw any degradation except the occasional banding from interior lights (which isn't an applicable issue with the app).

My wife pretty much insisted I give up my two floor-standing Klipsch Chorus II speakers, the huge Cerwin-Vega subwoofer, the 36-inch Klipsch center speaker and the Klipsch corner rear speakers and the Linaeum Optimus rear surround speakers and the receiver/amplifier that powered it all--well it did take up a lot of space in the living room. So, I downsized to the best soundbar I could find, a Yamaha YSP 5600--had to upgrade to a 4K/3D 40" TV to go with the Oppo cd/blu-ray/dvd/dvd-audio/sacd/netflix/vudu and everything else player. New entertainment center and new Klipsch (but smaller) subwoofer.

It works but I no longer can feel the air pressure moving in the room when I play music.

Haha...Sony sucks with names. "Playmemories" for one. "Smooth Reflections" is a terrible name for what it does - misleading.

Ah that's a good point David. Will have to try that out.

Don't think it's an option. Once inside the app, you have different options

Oh, that's too bad.

OK, next question - I am finally getting round to buying/installing apps. What other ones are good/recommended? What's the one where you wave your hand to take the picture?

EDIT: "Touchless Shutter beta" right?

Nice images of audio components. I just have a basic 5.1 Bose set up. One thing I have for it that I really like is the Bose wireless transmitter/receiver for the rear surround speakers so I don't have to run wires all over the place.

One of my great grandsons came over to visit me today along with his parents. Here he is cleverly hiding behind the corner of my refrigerator so I couldn't see him. :-)

OK I played with timelapse and the Rii the other night and decided NOT to use the app because it precludes the silent (less damage over time) shutter; instead I
used an external intervalometer ~an Axis 360~ to trigger the camera.
It's like again Sony does remarkable things but for the timelapse app with thousands of repetitive shutter snaps wouldn't it be common sense to allow silent shutter ???

Starting to pull my hair out trying to buy/install apps. When I hit the "confirm and buy" button nothing happens. I'm trying it both in-camera and on the PC. Sheesh Sony, what crappy way to run an app store. vmad

I use the touchless shutter one and it works perfectly. Saved me like $5-15 by not having to buy a remote! Then another $5-15 because I would have lost said remote.

This one is nice if you forget your shutter release, however I do avoid due to the clunky interface in app mode, it's slow.

Nice thing about it is that you can do bulb shots with it, but with the older a7r, you can't, which made it super sucky. Everything is like molasses in app mode.
