Yeah the reason Amazon can ship so quickly is because of their local distribution networks....which means local taxes.

I don't buy big ticket items (i.e. photo gear!) from amazon. If I want something quickly and am willing to pay sales tax, I'll support my local shop!

thats why I buy on amazon, from other sellers that still offer prime ;) yet no tax.

I got my batis 25 on amazon, with super fast shipping and no tax for 1150 :) brand new with full us warranty.

Yeah I actually got the Loxia from amazon so my statement previously was actually false. But it came from jersey and no tax! Prime not available though.

Also, they have some good stuff in there wearhouse deals too. I snagged a moto 360 for close to half off....was basically new, but the box was tattered.

Sharp!!! Love the OOF rendering

The green LoCA on her hair behind her head is pretty attention-grabbing. Curious how well that might clean up in LR?

Yeah that type of lighting in the OOF areas is a nightmare for most lenses, but is especially problematic for the Batis. My one and only criticism of the batis 85. The GM handles it well.

I guess that's an area where the SY135 kicks ass. I quote LensTip (external link):

As you can notice in crops below the tested lens doesn’t have the slightest problems with the longitudinal chromatic aberration correction. You don’t have to stop down the aperture because even the image you get at the maximum relative aperture is practically completely free from any traces of that aberration.

Well I wasn't commenting on the CA...more the rendering of the OOF highlights in the leaves. The batis handles similar lighting like this:

IMAGE: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5746/23988923746_ec39e32cae_b.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/CxPvgy (external link) _DSC9327-2 (external link) by Carlo Alcala (external link), on Flickr

The Batis actually does a very good job at controlling LOCA, but this lends to the harsh defined boundaries of OOF highlights. Generally there is a trade-off between smooth OOF rendering and micro contrast. The distinguishing factor being the degree of correction of LOCA and spherical aberrations.

It's a subjective thing but for portraits I tend to prefer smoother oof areas over micro contrast even if it means some loca

Yeah, I haven't noticed any LoCA at all on the Batis. Which has been LOVELY, especially when the background isn't really all that busy to begin with. The 85Lii has the nice soft OOF rendering I love, when the background is busy, but at times the LoCA can be so bad I feel like I have to go black-and-white. Totally depends on the situation I guess. Pick your poison. (Or buy an Otus - those excel at both, don't they?)

Hah the soap bubble OOF highlights have always bugged me, but everything else about the photo I'm happy with. They actually have the image framed in their living-room (always a cool feeling) and when I actually looked at the image comprehensively instead of obsessing over OOF highlights I appreciated the image more.

Yeah the 85L is a purple fringing monster but the bokeh on that lens is phenomenal. Same with the SAL 135 f1.8. Fantastic bokeh...purple fringing wide open.

The Otus really does seem to be the only lenses that don't make the trade-off between micro-contrast and loca and spherical aberrations. No problem that can't solved with money right?

Ah that makes sense. I usually use it the opposite way and make sure to pick amazon or someone nearby so it gets to me more quickly.

Don't think amazon will ever support paypal. They push their own financing pretty hard.

True, but in thier defense their financing is just as good as Paypal, which makes things even more dangerous for me since I now have 3 credit cards with awesome long term 0 interest financing

I just wait until I have the money saved up first...gives me something to look forward to that way. Actually, I have a virtual piggy-bank that I put money into every payday. It's my 'rainy day' account for those unexpected repairs, replacing appliances that die, etc. I also use it for my toys if I have the monies already set aside for them there.

I can't tell you how good a feeling it is when something breaks down that has to be replaced and you already have money set aside to pay for replacing it.

Of course, your outgo can't exceed your income or your upkeep will be your downfall.
