I dont want to look stupid out of the box Turn it off, it doubles your exposure time and all it does is remove hot pixels. No actual noise reduction occurs, not sure why they call it that to be honest. X100V

It must do a bad job of it then because I had it on after a long 3.5 minute exposure and I still got hot pixels. David | Flickr

Would love to figure that out. That's the other thing, it only has any effect on JPEGS - like most in camera things, RAW files are untouched! I was under the impression that Capture One did it automatically? I use Lightroom though so not sure. X100V

I've never read that LENR only affects jpegs...find that really hard to believe, but I am a LE newbie so I don't know this stuff. David | Flickr

I'm also certain it's the case for Canons and Nikons so I assume it applies for Sony. I could be wrong of course, but as it doubles the exposure time the gain for me becomes redudent as I could spend that time taking another photo! This is eapecially important for Astrophotography (for me at least) as time is limited. X100V

So far I've read that it is included in Nikon RAWs but doesn't affect Canon, not sure what that's based on though. But it does only remove hot pixels, which is the result of "noise" I guess, rather than the actual high ISO noise one would assume it removes. X100V

LENR does remove noise (hence the name) and is not targetted at hot pixels which is why some hot pixels will still remain. It wont remove all noise at really high iso levels I.e astro levels. It does remove some hot pixels as they are treated as noise Leica M11 | Leica Q2 | Sony α7RV
