MedicineMan, it sounds like it's going to be a great trip, even if there won't be any lions there. :-) Looking forward to seeing images from there.

On another note,..

Brewed by the Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown Pennsylvania, this pilsner beer is rated as outstanding.

And guess what? I like it! ♥

That's why i find it odd there's decentered 18's kicking about.

Do the loxias come with a QC card?

Yeah the loxia had a QC card. Either Zeiss' QC tolerances aren't high enough, or people are trying too hard to find problems with a lens. I do think that higher resolution sensors are making it easier to spot lens issues.

Yes they do. Kind of pointless if you get a lens with issues.

Sorry, can't get to Pyrimaden this time of year---still too much ice for the boat to get there BUT too much ice and not enough snow to snowmobile to get there.
We did check though :(

Thanks Gene.
That beer looks sumptuous.....sadly I still avoid carbs and will suffer with vodka tonight.
But the brewery, I love the little micro brews all over the place. I don't think Victory is a micro but it reminds me of when I was hiking on the Appalachian Trail and went through Port Clinton,Pa. Several of us hitched to the Yuengling Brewery and got snockered.

Anyway working bugs (I'm sick of birds). This shot is not quite there. It is handheld 4 shots stacked in Zerene. I needed at least two more shots but he flew away. It is 2:1 with the Venus. I did check out the wide angle Venus=need. The 60mm Venus to me is a great lens. It can go so much further than the 1:1 I have with the EOS 100mm but it's not so hard to use as the MP-65. Plus it is lightweight. For the DSLR crowd the EVF blackout must suck, but for the Sony (and other mirrorless) it's not a problem.

Iceland, hmmmmmm.
Flight is in 9 days.
2 weeks in Iceland then a week in Svalbard.
Excited?
I keep asking myself if I'm a landscape guy.
I think you know I'd rather be imaging this-
https://www.flickr.com …/album-72157645282844411/ (external link)
or
https://www.flickr.com …/album-72157639067658694/ (external link)
But if I can get one or two of these
https://www.flickr.com …/album-72157639928047355/ (external link)
https://www.flickr.com …/album-72157639928047355/ (external link)
I'll be OK.
It's just that there are few animals there.
I do hope to image a Puffin, one on a cliff and one on my dinner plate!

Should be fun/exciting though weather wise, we check roads everyday--many are still closed/impassable/slick; so lots
of snow and ice still which I like.

We're using/living in a Durango 4x4 RV. That in itself should be a story.

But will be the lightest weight camera wise trip in a long time. Sony and mFT. NO EOS kit at all. Kind of funny the DXii
should be here next week and it's not even going :)

Now Svalbard should be very interesting. It should not be warmer than 20F any day we're there, but the odds of seeing
Walrus are good and that's the sole reason for going. If we can't find one in a week then shame on me.

Instead of pointing the camera up you just point it level .... Instead of having to acquire track and shoot.... . just stand in AWE of where you are and shoot. Wildlife to Landscape by Paul

Eriet thanks.
Ours should be here next week.
If it makes it before the 9th it's going on the trip--Poof will use it on the a6300.
I'm still taking the 70-400gii for use on the a7Rii-tried and proven in Costa Rica.
The guy did an ok initial review but the pics were so-so, nothing against the lens, just
I wasn't moved by his subject matter--that and I just woke up and am a bit grumpy :)
I'm not loosing the 70-200, in my mind its just too good. The FE 70-300 may or may not
stay. I'll know after three weeks abroad with it.

Really look forward to your opinion. I almost hit buy on one to test it out next weekend shooting with all the big boys but I love my 70-200 and this only appeals to that extra 100mm and size but I think I might just have to watch for a deal on the 70-400 and carry it on more wildlife adventure specific trips.

Eriet I really can't say enough good about the 70-400gii. I've heard some bemoan the weight
but that's relative-I shot with the 500ISii yesterday and it lived on the monopod.
Sharpness at 400 is what I wanted. Since I'm preaching this lens I'll repost, from the
Costa Rica trip where I labored with an EOS kit too---when I go back I doubt I'll take any Canons; the
shadow recovery, the 'ISOLESS' nature of the Sony sensor was just perfect there.

Love the bird shot MedicineMan.

Testing the Loxia 21 on a boring blue sky this morning. This lens handles sun flare well. I did have a bit but it was easy to remove.

Love the sun stars this lens produces.

I've always had very high regard for the sun stars in Canon's 16-35L II. The Loxia looks to have a similar beautiful sun star (and, of course, with superior corner to corner sharpness).

David, I agree. Although the Canon 16-35L II isn't as sharp in the corners as the Loxia 21, it does indeed produce fantastic sun stars.

Here is another from earlier in the week. No Smooth Reflections app on this one as I was in a hurry.
