Last of my Milky Way images from the OBX...had hoped to get out and chase it again in the Smokies this weekend...but as is typically the case, the weather has gone to crap on me.
This shot happened on accident...I was shooting the seawall and stars and noticed the MW visible just above the horizon...so I setup for a 6 image pano.

in stock at BH. very tempted especially since my kid starts basketball in June. but am unsure if it will work for me or not...depends on how slow the max aperture is in the intermediate focal lengths.

Whoah! Crazy angle! Is it the milkey way reflection in the water?! Beautiful stuff

Whats the bright light just by the horizon on the left?

Thanks. Admittedly, I didn't see the MW until it showed up on the LCD...it was much more faint when it was just on the horizon.

It was crazy, I had never seen it right on the horizon like that. Thanks!

I assume its a boat out on the water.

Looks like the new Samyang will be under $600 bucks. Lots of CA wide open in these early sample shots. Big lens too. I think I'd rather spring a little more for a used or grey market FE55.

If you keep talking about it Im going to order one before you put up your opinion. Steve Huff was supposed to drop in on the astro thing this weekend and I wanted to really hit him on his full opinion on the 70-300 but all he said so far to me when I asked vs the 70-200 he said he would take the 300 based on size and reach... never mentioned quality comparison.

Sigh

will pass on the 50 1.4, a bit too big and a little too much purple fringing.... Will probably pass on the 14 as well if it's that big.

I would love a 70-300, and the sony one looks fairly compact. When I started shooting landscapes, I used the tamron 70-300 at the time, but quickly outgrew it, not sharp enough. The sony 70-300g needs to be sharp as the 70-400g which I currently own, or it's no go for me.

based on MTF scores, the lens looks optimized for 300, which is really nice. Supposedly, it will be the tiniest bit better than the 70-400g, and if the reviews show that to be true, I will sell off the behemoth in favor of the smaller FE lens. 400mm is nice, but I can probably replace with a longer prime.

If it is sharp it will be in my bag asap

Yeah the size would be worth it if the optical performance wide open were there, but it looks like this might not be the case. If you're needing to stop the lens down to get usable shots on the samyang, then stick to the FE55, which also has some fringing, but performs very well wide open. Either that or the cheaper, and much smaller 50 1.8.

Just a heads up. Focus Camera has 2 Batis 18mm left in stock. I'll be refusing my package from BH on Monday, as I just placed new order with Focus Camera. They will have it shipped to me by Friday at no extra cost. BH couldn't change delivery speed even if I were to pay more..
