Exactly. If a price is to close to what a new one or even a refurbished one considering even a refurbished one will have warranty they will be the better option. Basically it comes down to how bad u want to sell and how much of a hit do u want to take. With any thing used that was bought at full price u will take a hit. If an item is a good deal it will attract more people. Some like my self are not really looking but if the to good to be true price comes up I would jump on it. To buy some thing for say 2800 and expect to sell for 2700 with no warranty prob isn't going to happen. I've seen a used a7r2 on fred Miranda for 2500 obo. Even that seems high for a used cam. Especially considering sony may be releasing a new model soon. That always drives the price of current models down.I bought my a7 for 1100 and right now it's prob worth 500.that's just the way it goes. Now with all that said if u want to sell me your a7r2 for 2200 I'm inߘ

that is the nature of camera body resale. Looking at comparable bodies like the 5Dsr and 5Ds, they take major hits on resale, I've seen 5Dsr's sell for 23-2500, which is pretty insane considering the initial price.

Maybe your photos arent good enough? who knows, selling camera gear can be a drag if you want to get high prices, and considering I bought the cam for 2700 new, I personally wouldnt consider a second hand version for 2700, while others may. Consider you can go on ebay now and get a gray market NEW body for 2800, 2700 doesnt seem that great of a deal, you've gotta compete with that sorta reasoning as well.

the resell value is very poor now. I guess it's because new bodies/upgrades are coming out quicker than usual so the cost of resell cant hold on too long. sony is the quickest, once a year or even less and as you see in the thread, we would strive for the newer upgrade as it becomes announced because of the terrible gas. and for those who can't afford the new, they want the older model for the cheapest they can get and low ball pretty bad that you would think it's insulting.

well that's my experience :P

I don't own a new a72 and would like an upgrade over the original, and if I can wait, I would wait for the a73. if I cant settle for the a73 after 6 months of its release I would wait for the next. because after 6 months the new model will be just around the corner.

putting aside sony, yes as Charlie says, the resell for the 5d3 is pretty bad and even the 1dx, for Nikon it's even worst.

Resale value sucks on everything right now; lenses included. That's why I feel it necessary to change my mind about selling my 5DS R: it's worth far more to me than it will be on the resale market.

The bummer is my decision means I'll be returning the Loxia 21mm when it arrives tomorrow. I have a great kit already and I simply can't afford to take a loss on selling gear in order to buy new gear. The exception is my 24-70L II, which I don't need and will use that sale to the fund various accessories I do need.

This realization drives home to me just how painful this GAS-inducing thread is going to be going forward. :p

Strong dollar is making these international grey market deals very attractive...which is pushing used prices down. The crappy thing is that Canon/Sony aren't adjusting their US MSRP prices accordingly..and are instead padding up their margins. You see it in their annual reports as 'higher income due to favorable foreign exchange rates'.

I'm getting the sense that I shouldn't buy anything new unless I'm sure I'll hold onto it.

I love how the mountain change colors at different time of days. This was shot close to sunset. This is a 5 shot pano. Did I go overboard on the processing?

A -9 stop dark glass you can add in front of your lens. It will enable you to shoot long exposure like smooth waterfalls even in broad daylight.

For some like -3 stops you can also use if you want to shoot wide open on a bright day for portraiture.

You might have seen my image posts in this thread using a Singh Ray 15-stop ND. :)

I'm afraid my brain just got temporarily stumped by the phrase "9-Stop" instead of "9-Stop ND". I can be a bit slow sometimes. ;)

On the other hand, the resale value will keep on going down until it's worth a hamburger at McDonalds (figuratively). And if it's just collecting dust in your closet, it's a very expensive thing to hold onto.

Amazingly I did a check through my Lightroom database and made an surprising discovery. My usage of each camera is very nearly equal! I only had about 65 more shots from the a7R II. Funny how we can perceive things wrongly. My sense was that I was neglecting the 5DS R, but that's not even close to reality.
