Eddie xpfloyd lookalike More info | May 20, 2016 16:28 | #17809 EverydayGetaway wrote in post #18013468 Lol, depends on who you ask really ![]() The R50 is the first gen non-supercharged basic hatchback, then the R53 is the "S" model for the 1st Gen, it's supercharged and has a few other differences, then the second gen hardtops were titled R56 for both "S" (which was now turboed instead of supercharged) and the current hardtop is now designated F56 and has a bigger 2.0L Turbo motor. The new one is objectively faster than the others, but most enthusiasts will tell you they're steadily losing their fun appeal... I'm not sure how true that is with the F56, but I will say that I drove an R56 prior to my R53 and I wasn't impressed with it, it sort of turned me off from Mini's for a few years to be honest... then I was convinced to try out an R53 by a BMW forum member and as soon as I finished my test drive I started looking for one, then I sold my 330i and haven't regretted it since ![]() thanks for the info, exactly what I was after Leica M11 | Leica Q2 | Sony α7RV

If weight/size isnt an issue I would go with the Sigma. I really want a Batis 18 but like you say the sigma is much faster. Leica M11 | Leica Q2 | Sony α7RV

The project will include a lot of nightlife shots. I have the excellent 35L II, which should be great, but I'm thinking about something really wide and really fast. As much as I love the Loxia 21, I am actually thinking about the Sigma 20mm Art. A full two stops faster than the Loxia and has AF. Sound reasonable? Another possibility is Batis 18mm, which could be really cool as well. But, it's still 2 stops slower. OTOH the Sigma isn't filter friendly, but I'm not too worried about it as I do have the filter friendly 16-35 f/4L IS, but it still bugs me somewhat. The Sigma looks like a really interesting lens and you can do some creative things at f1.4 and 20mm. I'm a wide aperture guy so believe me I was tempted...the only reason I didn't go that route was size. focalpointsphoto.com

The Sigma is a lot of fun, you can get really creative with that wide angle and that aperture. It is also incredibly sharp stopped down. It is a beast, not small by any stretch, and is not filter friendly. It is on the short list to end up in my bag. Website

But, yes, price of the Sigma is yet another strong appeal. mystik610 wrote in post #18013573 The Sigma looks like a really interesting lens and you can do some creative things at f1.4 and 20mm. May 20, 2016 20:40 | #17816 David, the AF plus wide aperture of the Sigma and the generous 20 mm make it very attractive. Negatives as you mentioned are weight and I wasn't aware it didn't accept filters. That's a shame. You can't go wrong with the Loxia 21, Batis 18 or the Sigma 20. Tough choice. Each has their strengths and weaknesses. - Alfredo -

You can always tell a true driving enthusiast from a general "car guy" based on how they perceive cars like Mini Coopers and Mazda Miatas... if they scoff at them then they clearly aren't real enthusiasts ![]() Which generation is your Mini?
