Yes and no. I haven't been shooting much because of law school and work. I think it's worth too much to just sit in my drawer. I might get a Sony RX100 or Canon GX7 to be able to carry around more (and obviously save some money).

Good luck with LS, my wife told me that year-two was the hardest for her. You're in Oregon, right?

I don't know much about the GX7, but I do have an RX100ii and I'm very happy with it. I know it would be very good for your food photography. Whatever you decide to do about a camera, you'll be OK because you are a talented shooter.

I brought the RX100ii to Maine last week, and in general I'm pretty happy with how it did taking landscape along the coast.

Thanks. And yes, everyone that I have spoken to say 2L year is generally the most difficult. Correct, living in Portland.

And I've used the G7X before and I liked it + ergonomics and menu system. Have not used an RX100 since the first one, but I did like it and I know it's one of if not the best compact cameras.

Goodluck CJ. Both with the law school and with the sell. I think your decision is good. Focus on your school first.

Since I got the Batis 85 at Christmas, I've been plagued by the feeling that it's red-headed stepbrother, my 90mm macro, was totally redundant (not to mention clearly inferior, perhaps simply because of the Sony G vs. the sexy blue Zeiss badge, and it's less svelte exterior). I would've sold it... was going to sell it... but my tendency for procrastination prevented that. Thankfully.

Today was my first full day of headshot sessions without the Batis, after having to send it in to Zeiss for repair. And man oh man, I'm so glad I didn't sell the 90. Was a great reminder that this thing is seriously good for portraits. Especially tight headshots. In that niche, it really leaves nothing to be desired. The slower aperture does make it a less ideal candidate for dreamy 3/4 or full body portraits, where you might want the ability to melt the background, but at tight headshot distance, it melts it nicely. Of course, I knew that before I ever had the Batis, but new gear always tends to get the love.

A couple from today (un-retouched, obviously)

Another superb shot, David! The colors of the fountain really draw you in. I notice some lines in the reflection. Are those power lines?

Thanks. And another great Hawaii shot from you as well! :)

The water is about two inches deep and the basin is clad with stone panels...the lines are the joints in the stone.

I seriously thought about cloning them out as I anticipated they might be confusing to viewers, but I also strangely like them (which is never true regarding overhead lines). What would you do about them?

BTW, another potential for viewer confusion is that when you view the image large on Flickr you can see the texture of the stone in the basin through the thin pool. It interacts with the sky reflection as to make it look like some sort of color compression artifacts. So, I even thought about doing a "noise reduction" to kill the stone texture.

Really undecided whether I want to "fix" these potential areas of viewer confusion. I am typically very liberal when it comes to those editing out distractions, but here I have been more conservative.

Oh I see now. When I first viewed your photo I didn't notice them but now they are a bit distracting to me. I agree they are a bit confusing because they appear like power lines. I would probably clone them out. Beautiful image regardless.

avoid eclipse solution, there was some sorta bulletin on that. The cameras with IBIS would need to follow a more special instruction, but non IBIS, nothing special.

I use this product, works well: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K8MTQGY (external link)

What's the bulletin about? I've used Eclipse before (although I haven't needed to do the A7RII yet). Just curious.

Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.
