I'm debating the 70-300 vs the 70-200 F4. Does anyone who's shot with both have any comments on how the two lenses compare?

If I need a fast aperture telephoto, I have my 135 and 70-200 f2.8....so max aperture doesn't bug me much. Mostly concerned with AF performance and reach.

Oh your just trying to get my goat..... in my option the 70-200 is stellar..better than the canon versions. It is fast accurate and all around better than the 70-300.

So why did I sell mine for the 70-300....because of the 300. I needed length. Now I'm not going to say it's a bad lens...It's good for 1100 bucks it is sized well and does the job. I'm having trouble with BIF but could be me too.

So here is one of the things that also pulled me over.... I have the fe90. So really the 70-200 only was covering the 100-200 range or for me..it was a 200 lens.

70-200 stellar no complaints still wish I had it
70-300 decent small and best option for long reach right now on the e mount

Wow, super shot Joon. Love how it looks like there is no water beneath the pier.

Thank you Sir!

Fantastic shot! The wide perspective with the 10mm lens is great.

Thank you Alfredo. Like what I told David, I'm sure you will make much finer images than me. Really enjoy your work too!

is there a tutorial somewhere?

There are many tutorials on color correction, restoring faded color, etc. that I've watched over the years. My technique is probably a combination of all of them to some degree. I will say that in addition to using curves layers to correct color, I also used vibrance and levels adjustment layers to fine tune color and contrast. Of course, each image is unique and can require different approaches to correcting them.

Oh, here's a web page I created using a slider to compare the original image with the corrected version if anyone's interested.

AF isn't terribly critical to me....kids sports lol. I think optical quality can take a back-seat too since I wouldn't consider this super critical stuff. Though I would like something that would make a nice telephoto landscape option when appropriate.

I like the tutorials from tutvid. Good presenter. Learned a lot about Photoshop from him.

I have the same sentiment as eriet. Wide open, the center looks sharp always, and far edges improve close to 70-200 levels when stopped down.

I cant say about AF, 300mm isnt the same as 200 and the demand for super AF at longer focal lengths tends to be really tough to achieve.

I really need to do some more testing before my return period runs out, however, my impressions is that it's a keeper. I think I have negligible amounts of decentering, acceptable amount (double take on a 1:1 @42mp and you may see it).

Another note for the 1635, the AF is completely silent and fast.

btw, on topic of curves (+ selective masking), absolutely essential if working on milky way photos IMO.

There's a lot going on here :p

For me, A7RII has been somewhat relegated in its role as I continue with Canon and build up Fuji setup. I do miss its resolution and high-ISO performance, but Fuji's portability and ergonomics suit me better in most shooting situations (although this particular setup doesn't exactly illustrate the virtues I am extolling).

Thanks Charlie and Eriet. I may give this lens a go this week.

FWIW, I bought mine in the used BH section, 10 condition, basically new with box for 1K. It was a nice savings, downside is only 90 day warranty. The size of the lens is about same as adapted 24-70ii. Great size for a lens that goes 300mm IMO.

My Fuji kit is continuing to grow as well... I seriously may end up selling my Sony kit if the X-T2 delivers on what everyone is hoping it will deliver on.

What's expected on the xt2? Haven't been keeping up to speed on that one.
