It's a good itch to have :)
Far better than a lot of itches.
My worst itch is to buy more camera kit :(

Hah the best cure for GAS is to simply shoot with what you have.

trust me - don't upgrade the software - it is not good

couldn't get eye AF to work for more than a millisecond and then the little square goes away (with 24-70, Tamron 45 & 85)

the lenses do the hunt back forth then lock on and it is not quiet

keep the old software or buy Sony lenses

i just figured out you can got backwards if you do upgrade - when you connect the lens you need to hold down the button on the adapter otherwise it won't let you launch the updater to install the old software

i just re-installed .49 because it works very well on the Canon 24-70, 35Lii, Tamron 85

I will give the .50 a try, could you share the .49 firmware? just in case I need to go back.

Paul, different question: how well does your Tamron 85mm AF on your a7R II? My 90mm Macro (the new version released alongside the 85) is pretty awful on the a7R II (but fine on the 5DS R). In retrospect I should have got the 85mm...I just really don't give a ____ about macro photography.

- Works perfectly - just as good as the Canon 24-70 that I have been able to determine.
- You may want to check if you haven't that you are running the .49 software because Metabones released a specific improvement for the Tamron 45mm.
- I bought both the 45 & 85 the day after this software upgrade so from day 1 both these lenses have worked perfectly
- I will so I don't have lots of time on these lenses on the A7Rii as I use them mostly on my 5DSR / 1DX_II
- but from what I tested, and I just tested the 85 agains right now, it works very well on the .49 software
- the lens also balances very well on the camera
- the one thing to remember is that if you shoot at F1.8 / F2, and use Face Detect, the Sony Face Detect software is not grabbing the eye - it is focusing in front of that - thus the big advantage of EyeAF which as I just tested on the new software - is NOT good

The lens has received generally good reviews - in fact on the sharpness measures, it apparently is Otus like. There is one guy that is giving it negative reviews for not having attractive foreground bokeh (not the post ground bokeh that everyone measures). I tested this and compared it to the Canon 70-200 F2.8 II @ F2.8 and they are basically identical - and I have never heard of the 70-200 having unattractive foreground bokeh. I linked his Youtube review below - I posted in the comment section with links to the Bokeh comparison I mentioned. I really like the lens and think it is a great overakk package.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Sheesh, well, I was SUPER EXCITED there for about 25 seconds, until seeing 135L not supported, then reading Paul's initial thoughts on it. Now back to sad reality. Think I'll hold off. Gotta have strong performance on the 24-70ii, and if this kills it, no thanks.

Something tells me a .51 will be quick to follow. I'd guess the 24-70 is one of the most commonly adapted lenses, you'd think the villagers will revolt if it's universally as bad as he's saying it is.

A few weeks ago I said here that I'm buying the Godox V860I-S flash and the Godox X1t-s transmitter. No Misfires. You just have to put the flash in Slave mode and check your channel and group.

Sorry for the late update.

i'm happy to inform you that the setup is awesome..... recycle time up to 1/2 +3 is instant, for full power recycle is 2secs. very impressive. no misfires

it's coming for sure. One thing I noticed about the update, the button is now Focus Hold!!!

that makes any canon adapted lens have a bonus button, which is huge IMO. Love the focus hold button on the 70-300, the only thing is the placement of the MB button isnt optimal

I have either .46 or .47, not sure which exactly, but it works well with my lenses. I'm going to try out .50 for the native features, not too worried about the 24-70ii, but if it works for my 3 primary use lenses (sigma 50, EF 100 f2, EF 135 f2) then I'm golden for a really long time. Knowing metabones, a few iterations and it'll be golden.
