I'd pick the 25. (I own both). As it's more versatile.
But then again, it depends what other FLs you're taking on the trip. If you have 24-70 covered, then the 18 gives you a wider option.

I like the 25 for walking around...maybe i will just take both...

Beautiful images. The purple hummer is striking.

I have no idea what tone-mapping is. I have heard of it though. LOL.

Haha. Yeah it's not as common these days. It's basically a way of merging your bracketed images into an image that represents a high dynamic range that can be displayed by our monitors. The resulting file has a ton of information and is usually a 32 bitTIFF file.

Here is an example from a few years back

I did give filters a go while on the trip. This shot in broad daylight-

On another topic, does anyone here still tone-map their images?

I am using LR HDR merge, and tonemap in LR. If merging 5DS R brackets, I sometimes tonemap in Photomatix.

Very cool. Thanks David. I'm going to experiment more with this for my architecture images and some landscapes.

Speaking of resolution on monitors...

I forgot to tell you guys that my Vizio P65 (4K HDR LED TV) has been working great as an editing monitor, the only issue I've had with it so far is that the Nik suite doesn't scale properly to 4K :( So that's kind of a pain... but I don't have to zoom in really at all anymore to see exactly where my focus is, it's pretty sweet kicking back on my sofa while I'm editing too :)

I'll probably stick with my editing monitor for paid work just for the peace of mind, but I'll likely be using the TV for most everything else. Viewing all the shots I've edited on my phone, tablet or other monitor they look pretty much the same as how I want them to... good enough for me :)

One more hummer shot just for fun. He looks like he's falling asleep. :-)

I re-edited this image using tone-mapping in Photomatix to derive a neutral image. Then I applied tonal, color, and then my artistic effects using PS CC and Nik Color Efex.

Let me know what you guys think?

Just a personal preference Alfredo but I'd like to see just a bit more contrast to deepen the shadow a little...and a slight w/b adjustment, at least for how it appears on my monitor.

Here are my quick, subtle adjustments of it as an example.

For you Batis folks...considering renting one for my upcoming Vancouver trip...18mm or 25mm

Both awesome. 25 seems sharper in the corners but both seriously good. You just have to decide how wide you want to go

Geez bad light over there is better than anything I've got over here. Nice work Eddie.

Puckman wrote in post #18051740 (external link)
Seriously. I could do wonders with this "bad light" and this scenery.

What I meant was it was very bright, harsh light due to the time of day and the high sun. I had to use a 6 stop GND and a 1.5 stop CPL to get it down to a 3 second exposure. I also had to burn the rocks as they had harsh highlights on them.

I'm going to revisit this area at either sunrise or sunset and see what I get
