Entry for this weeks "Motion" theme?

The thought crossed my mind. But let's see what else I can capture this weekend.

Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.

Yellow? If you mean the lightest colored feathers on her breast, when I click on that area with the hue/saturation eyedropper, it shows it to be made of blues, reds and magenta, depending on where I click. I believe the hummingbird is a female Rufous which has brownish red colored feathers on the sides of her body. The eyedropper picker shows the red channel on those areas in my edit as far as I can tell. On the original image, the color picker shows the colors on the breast to be blues and cyans.

You're right. They are very blue. It's odd that neutralizing the blues has given the whole image a strong yellow cast (to my eyes). I tried a different approach in an effort to preserve the background greens:
1. separated the bird from the background.
2. used a color balance adj layer (clipping mask) to neutralize the blues in the highlights (left midtones alone, and pulled back the greens in the shadows).
3. use an HSL adj. layer (clipping mask) to partially neutralize the blue/cyan in the beak and feet.
3. on the backround a selective color adj. layer was used to warm up the reds/magentas and darken them as well.

How does it look? https://www.dropbox.com …/Nadims%20Hummer.jpg?dl=0 (external link)

Nice job David, your colors may be more accurate than mine. All I did to mine was adjust white balance and set the white/black points a little different. Only Nadim can say which background color most accurately depicts his backyard but I was thinking California "green" so the yellows in the bg seemed perfectly natural to me. ;-)a

Nadim, cool hummer shots! Did you use your 100-400L?

Gaabnz, well done on the Milky Way shot. I hope to get some shots tonight if it clears up.

Gene and David, I like both edits of Nadim's hummer. David, did you use Topaz Remask to select the hummer?

Gaabnz, your milky way photos are like cheat codes, I dont have nearly as dark as a sky, but did manage to go shoot it as well. Clouds came rolling in shortly after.

Charlie, awesome shot! May I sugges cropping off the bottom to get rid of the bright light reflection? It draws my eye away from the Milky Way.

105 today hanging on me in the sun.... I overheated (had three nasty signs of heat issues) but never have I had the heat warning on the 6300. I do turn it off a lot though between shooting but even on my airforce show days it was on ALL day 3 batteries and never overheated. I also leave it in the car often and pull it out shoot away car is well over 100 degrees.

Sorry my end I havent had an issue ---- I may fire off shots until it has to buffer then try to force more BUT I dont shoot video if that is what you were doing

Eriet thanks. We dev. have a issue. Will start the 'sony' process when we get back. My first time with a serious Sony issue.

David, did you use Topaz Remask to select the hummer?

The background around the hummer is consistently green, so I used the "select color" to select all the greens. Afterward did a little "refine edge" work as well. Naturally there was some additional quick touch-ups in quick mask mode, such as painting out any greens in the bird itself as well as painting in the feeder.

I use "select color" as often as possible as it gives fantastic quick results; especially great for isolating skies.

This looks truer to what my eyes saw.
This is a great example of why I sometimes complain about the Sony WB.
And I don't have the skills or patience to do what you guys have done in PP. I just want to shoot, do minimal PP and move on.
In that sense I still feel my 6D seemed truer to nature.

I still wanna go back out to point Vicente at night for an Astro. I have yet to make full use of this Batis 18. I'm kinda depressed. All this fancy gear and I have zero inspiration these days. Nowhere good to shoot. Every time I go out on weekends it's hot and yucky outside. The light sucks. And there's nothing interesting to shoot.
Definitely going to try going out tonight.

Yep that color picker comes in handy at times. I have been testing out another panel called Lumenzia by Greg Benz. It's doesn't have as many buttons as Raya Pro or the TKActions panel but boy does it have some nice features and addresses some of the side effects of using luminosity masks, namely large file sizes and excessive history state in PS. The panel allows you to create luminosity masks but but they are not channel based. Instead they are derived from curves.

Here is more info if you are interested. I especially like the color range tool, the various adjustment tools, and the free hand option to create vignettes. Im finding my TIFF files are much smaller now and my workflow with using luminosity masks much more streamlined.

it was especially poor last night, mostly cloudy, and just didnt seem dark enough. Last time you could see it with the eye, but this time, I could barely make it out on camera after the fact, it wasnt good at all. There were few others there and they werent very happy either. Luckily for my ninja photoshop skills, I manage to pull some of it out.
