Flash definitely helps. I used a Nissin Di700A mounted on the camera with this mini 'softbox' (external link) for this shot...

Super shot Gene! Very sharp too. I may have to replace my bulky Canon 580 speedlight for the Nissin. Mind sharing your softbox setup?

And thank you and Jocau for your inputs on my monitor calibration. I think I have it dialed in now.

Edit: Congrats on the watch too! Very nice.

Travis I'm drawn in and would love to glide a kayak along those waters.

The curves drew me in too...I also had the desire to put a boat in here...the end of the boardwalk I was on is for that very purpose...it would be cool to explore those areas.

I'm reminded that this must be the kind of landscape our forefathers saw when they explored the wildernesses of North America. Beautiful light and serenity captured.

I have to agree...what it must have been like to discover places like this...thanks for the kind words.

Travis, I also find your image very peaceful. I enjoyed the sweeping lines of the grass framing the water towards the background. Nicely done and good job not over processing it.

I know this softbox, but more than one way to actually use....so Gene I too would like to see how you positioned the soft box when you used it.

Thanks. Glad its not overdone, I didn't want an in your face super saturated image...that would not have been a good representation of what happened...I actually had to lighten the sky a bit after bringing up the foreground, just to balance it out a little more...just another example of how much data is in these dang files...

A little different kind of macro shot...my new watch.

Syncs with the atomic clock in Colorado and is solar powered.

Glad my suggestions helped Alfredo.

I just had the flash mounted in the camera's hot shoe and placed the softbox on the end of the flash. Flash was set for TTL and seemed to do a good job at difusing the light at the distance I was shooting from. Note that the jumping spider shot is cropped so I wasn't as close as it appears.

Thanks Vinz. For lighting the watch, I used the same setup that I did for my razor.

Gene, thank you for the quick response.

We had some friendly visitors to our front yard the other day. This was shot at golden hour which worked out well I think. I guess deer can be happy, right? Here is one that is smiling at me.
