Eriet one reason we considered the SOTs is for photography platform. I think your size/weight is light compared to 5 of the guys we paddle camped with 2 weeks ago on the Green River in Ky....and all of them were on SOTs. Stability is key to them for fishing platforms. One of the guys even sat on the edge and it didn't keel over.
One that was popular among that same group we were with was Wilderness Systems Tarpon 14 and 16. LOTs of storage space, very stable, fast and affordable compared to what we chose (900 something shipped) but 70+ pounds killed them for us.

I would love to get into that hobby...it would open so many opportunities...we rented a sit on top at the beach a couple years ago and really enjoyed it...it was not a nice one, but we still had fun.

Not a great shot but my first and only lenticular cloud. This was taken after sunset so could have been
better, but still my first-

Very cool...I have only seen a very loosely formed lenticular one time in person...so see one so well defined, I would have to photograph it and would be thrilled about it..

I cannot not like a lenticular cloud capture. Very cool! :)

I collect kayaks-

Those are the ones at the cabin. I keep the more prized models (Like the Mirage 580) in town.
And we leave this evening to pick up two more. This time SOTs (sit on tops). We have chosen Eddyline Caribbean 14s due to 50 pound weight.
I think I'm over 4000 miles of logged paddling/paddle camping and have lived for over a week out of my kayak in various places. I'm no expert but
am willing to offer an opinion :)

there went a good bit of my morning....looking at more things I can't buy...

Just wanted to share

the nikon 105 2.5 AIS - THIS IS THE SHIZNITZ! sharpest lens i have used apart from macro lenses
Contax 50 1.7 - great zeiss character
CV 40 1.4 - almost everyone loves it here so no need to say anything more

I am trying so hard to get a contax zeiss 100 f2 here in Manila - i envy you guys there who can get all these nice lenses at a fraction of the price we can find them here...if we even find them.

also eyeing a locally available but reasonably priced helios 40-2, the 44-2 is a great little lens i actually have 2 of them hehe.

Off topic, but I impulsively bought a samsung gear VR...I'm kind of late to the party but am blown away by VR. VR video with a good set of headphones is quite an experience....but 360 photos are very immersive in their own right.....it has me thinking about the impact this will have on photography. It's pretty cool to be immersed an image and to really explore an entire scene as if you're standing in it.

A colleague of mine is developing small puzzle like games for the occulus rift. I happened to be his beta tester and despite the low graphics, its very impressive that it really makes you feel as if you were on a different place. Im very sceptic though, as i think kids nowadays are already too encapsulated from the society by their phones, facebook and what else is up there in the www.

Yeah the resolution and refresh rate of the head-sets right now sort of hinder the experience, but it is impressive how immersive the first generation of this stuff is.

The next thing that came to mind after thinking about how awesome this is, is what the negative implications are. Its a very weird sensation when you pull the head-set off and turn off the sensory overload of the VR world. You can see how this can be addicting in a very bad way.

I had the 105 2.5 AIS, and it's really good for sure. Got rid of it for a few reasons: 1. weight, it's near 400g? small but kinda heavy. At that weight, I have alternatives. 2. Dialing in ibis is annoying when I'm swapping a lot, so I'll just have to thin the heard when it comes to manual primes. 3. Aperture, the Canon 100 f2 not much bigger/heavier, yet 2/3 stop faster... makes a difference.

it's very good for the price, very dream like for portraits as the bokeh is very very good, and the orton like effect that the lens naturally produces is great.

Playing with timelapse photography. Somehow, I'm a few frames short of making a complete circuit.
