More images, this time I decided to go to the Montreal International Jazz festival's final night with no real plans other than taking some photos. I took the Sony 28mm with me along with the Samyang 135mm lens on the Sony A7s.

I will be honest, I am not much for taking wide angled portrait shots so the 28mm is not growing on me. Personally I prefer a 50mm focal length and longer, anyways as the night went on, I actually swapped out the 28mm for the 135mm to get some tighter shots of the performers on stage.

This band in particular is called Monkey Junk and were pretty talented. Anyways, all shows are with the Samyang 135.

For those of you that print big for the wall I need some advice please. Previously I have just got my prints done as normal photo prints and mounted and framed them but I feel they loose colour and contrast after a while. I want to try a few prints (landscapes) using fine art paper.

The company I use has Fujifilm paper and Hahnemühle paper - link here - http://www.loxleycolour.com …ineartprints#printOptions (external link)

There are options like matt vs glossy, smooth vs textured, pearl, bamboo etc.

Please can someone guide me to what is best? I normally get matt prints but also wondering now if glossy would be better for landscapes. Any advice appreciated

What is cool about this photo is that the light souce to illuminate the people pictured and the ice cave was
my backpacking headlamp. Where we were in the ice cave without headlamps was 100 percent dark city-

Eddie, I use Loxley for all my printing. I much prefer the matt prints and don't particularly like the lustre or gloss. My very favourite paper is the Hahnemühle Bamboo - it's got a bit of texture and is not pure white and my prints look much better than they do in Lightroom - it gives an 3D effect! BTW I've tried all the papers (a bit costly) as it's the only way to know what I like best but you can probably go visit them as they are not too far from you. You can also buy a sample book of all the papers. Any specific questions, just ask as I now have quite a lot of experience with them.

Thanks annie thats good info, I was actually planning on printing the same image on each paper to compare. I had sort of thought Fujifilm photorag or Hahnemühle Bamboo would be best but wasnt entirely sure. I had some of my landscapes on the wall printed as standard photo prints but the colours dont look as they should any more so think I need to go down the fine art paper route. I want to start printing more than I currently do. Ill give the bamboo a try based on your advice - thanks!

On another note, print related. You know those times when you are with friends or family and you look back over old photos. Everybodys got a shoe box (or 10) full somewhere in the house. I really love that but I now have a fear that with the digital age that could be lost. Sure ive got the electronic edits of all my photos but what happens when im gone? Callum will be left with hard drives full of files. Years could pass without him doing anything with them and as that happens technology changes and before you know it your left with hard drives that are not even compatible with modern computers. Heck ive got hard drives in the loft with files on them and I recently tried to hook them up via an external hard drive caddy and the format wasnt readable anymore and they were less than 10 years old. Does anyone else worry about that or is it just me?

Eddie, Photorag is lovely too - your idea is great about printing on all papers - that's what I did. I'll be interested to hear which you like best. Loxley do great wall products too.

Blu-Ray dvds, transfer old files every few years through an editing program and taking advantage of cloud storage.

I got tons of old pictures I bought myself a Fujitsu ix500 a great scanner maybe not the best image quality wise but still really good and it can batch scan pictures makes stuff like archiving much much faster.

its the opposite I'm worried about. Lots of digital images and nothing on paper
