Some pics from last night that did NOT get ruined by the weird smudge.

Beautiful! The orange sky glow is a perfect complement to the blue bridge lights.

That's precisely why I went back there. Last time around, I got some good shots, but wanted to read-do a couple.
Still need to go back since my main shot was foiled by another person who was doing long exposures right where he was in my frame.
Third time's the charm!

Again enjoying the 500mm on the Rii. Nice cropability and a reason I'm saving up for the big sensor Canon.

Nice! The sharpness is incredible. Saving up for a new Canon or sightly used one from your buddy here on POTN. :p

I've been back and forth about selling my 5DS R, but since my Charleston trip in April I've been dreaming of getting another Otus...so I am getting closer to deciding to let it go. It's a fantastic camera though and I have a very high satisfaction level with all my current gear, so my Otus dreaming might end up going the same way of other notions (nowhere).

You guys are chasing a magic bullet (external link).

There is no perfect camera. If you think there is, you'll just end up buying new gear over and over again. And you'll never be satisfied. You just need to buy the gear which has compromises you're willing to live with.

its not even about perfection for me, I don't think oh my camera doesn't do X but that one does so I want that one, I don't know what it is. I do know that there's always a compromise though

This is rather shocking coming from you...the ultimate perfectionist who won't buy a great camera (e.g. a7R II) because it isn't perfect. Something changed?

Yet I'm the one chasing magic bullets:rolleyes:

I think we need to stay friends ;)
1. I wouldn't like your price.
2. You wouldn't like my offer
3. You would REGRET loosing that body !! There is nothing like it.
All easy for me to say, I don't have Otus fever.

Well, one of the characteristics of a magic bullet chaser is buying new gear all the time. I quote (external link):

It’s an insidious addiction. You’re driven by a desire to improve, so it seems as if the effort and expense is justified. You get distracted, thinking that you need to BUY something to fix your pictures, when you probably need to LEARN something. When the latest toy doesn’t work out, you move on to the next.

I'm definitely not that guy.

I think that quote may be true for anyone starting out with photography, but that does not describe most of the people here.

I think its more to have the things that work out exactlyhow we want it to be. There are even people that made it to a hobby to try new things, why not. If you can afford it by selling other stuff that does not gets any use etc.

Well, as I've said before. If people have GAS, are OK with it and have the money to pay for it, it's fine. It's their money and life in the end.
