Thanks for the info. I'm going to sell the x100t and still not 100% sure about adding an a6300 so will likely be one body only. I'll go with B25 and FE55 I think then based on the above. I have a retrospective 5 which fits a7rii, B25, FE55 and B85 but I am planning on taking a smaller domke bag which fits the B25/FE55 with either lens attached. Really want to keep it as small as possible and enjoy the park without being bogged down with kit (at the same time as hopefully capturing nice memories)

Edit - I suppose I can tweak as I go as we will be going to multiple parks on multiple days

Are you taking the 18mm on your trip to FL? I would.

I think that's a good route. I suspect the Batis 25 will do most of the work for you...particularly if you make use of crop mode.

Last week I tried the Loxia route. The small size became infectious for me. Size might actually matter more than it has before. The performance at f/2 was poor, so it was returned to re-evaluate my plans, but I can see coming back to it.

This week's experiment is the Canon 24-70 f/4L IS. It came yesterday. It is smaller, lighter, and cheaper ($899) yet, by the numbers, may be excellent for landscapes. We'll see. If it works out, it saves a lot of money, but committing long term to relying on an adapter is a bit depressing.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to your experiences with the 24-70 GM. Thanks much for your thoughts! :)

I agree with you regarding the size point. There's a certain enjoyment that comes out of a smaller set-up that you don't get shooting with a large zoom. It's the reason I use the Loxia 21, and RX1RII a lot, and never use my 24-70II. It's also the reason I haven't run out and bought the 24-70 GM already, even though I really should be using a native lens for events.

Yes will be taking the 3 Batis lenses and the FE55. Will also take the FE28 if I pick one up in time and probably the sy24. Just not taking them all to the parks

FE28 and the Batis 25 are redundant IMO Eddie.

I wouldn't rule out bringing the Batis 18 to the parks if you want to shoot interiors.

Do you mean both redundant or no point having both as close in FL?

Ok, that's good...it could be valuable at Disney.

Depends on your goals, of course, but if I were going (and I've never been, so my thoughts = grain of salt) I would rather have 18mm than 25mm for shooting wide. But, that's just me, an architecturally focused shooter who is frequently frustrated by the limitations of 24mm and longer.

Redundant b/c they're so close in FL. You could crop the Batis 25 slightly to get the FOV of the FE28.

I like that idea but think 18 is too wide for family shots so I would be constantly changing lenses. That's why I keep considering the a6300. I'm on a bit of a loop with those thoughts at the moment. I could always try it at one park and if it doesn't work change it up for the next.

It was more a size thing although today I started using my B25 without the hood and seem to be liking it a lot more as its not that much bigger than the FE55, just fatter. For info the Batis lenses are the only ones I ever use hoods on. The B25 was feeling a tad big at times so was considering adding the FE28 to allow me the option of a small kit however a hood-less Batis may be the answer. Only slight niggle is it feels too wide at times but I suppose cropping would sort that. I just prefer framing at the final FL mainly but could try shooting a bit looser

Yeah the Batis 25 is chubby, but not very long. Its also very light.

If I didn't know you were such a landscaper, I'd say pick up the FE28 as its a great journalistic lens....but the Batis 25 is a much better landscape lens and it can double as a journalistic lens as well.

I don't really count the Sy lenses or the tokina, those are specialist lenses (Astro and macro). So only 5 lenses really if you think about it with a warped mind :D

In that case, 5 is nowhere near enough ;)

I tried my FD28 for landscape the other day - good enough for me. Going to sell the Sigma 24 2.8 as I prefer the FD. All my Canon gear is gone, umbrella and stand to sell and just bought a Canon Av-1 ;) That's a slimming exercise as I can then use my FD lenses on both bodies ;)

Thanks gene. My mac done an auto update then this started so was trying to work out if it was my machine. At least I know it's a site issue now. Wish there was an alternative free site that you can post various sizes of BB code from

EDIT - Seems to have cured itself

Here's my latest GAS plan

Keep - sy14, sy24, tokina 90, Batis 18,25 & 85, FE55

Sell - metabones adaptor, x100T, x100 wide angle convertor, FE35

Buy - FE28

That should keep me happy for about a week or so :D

Which Metabones adapter? I'll buy it if it's the T Smart Adapter
