Which Metabones adapter? I'll buy it if it's the T Smart Adapter

It's the IV T but I'm in the uk so you could probably get it cheaper in the states due to the shipping and insurance costs

Stopped down the Minolta 35-70 seemed like a great landscape lens. Small and cheap too. The fact that the filters rotated the focus was a deal breaker for me though

yes this lens is great,i use it the most for day to day walking around. the 1-4 macro isn't bad,it will help in a pinch not even close to 1-1 but better than nothing, but yes stopped to f8 this thing is sharp. i am looking for another one as my copy is pretty used and the focus ring isn't very tight any more. probably my fave under 100 lens. if this thing was f2.8 it prob wouldn't come off my camera....unless i was using the rok 14mm which is a awesome sharp lens too :-)

Just stumbled across this device https://www.amazon.co.uk …+JL&ref=plSrch&th=1&psc=1 (external link)

Basically a 1TB drive (2TB available too) with an SD card slot so you can back your photos up whilst away on a trip without the need for a laptop.

Anyone using anything like this? I thought it might be good for my upcoming USA trip so that I had a backup of my images as I wasn't planning on taking my macbook

You should take your laptop, it'll be useful if you need to look up bus schedules or something.

We will have the iPad and wifi in the place we are staying. However after reading some of the reviews on Amazon of the one I linked some people are saying transfer is really slow so I will probably just take the laptop

Same as my laptop can. But a HDD backup is better than no backup.

I too am interested in the 24-70GM. Appears to be an excellent lens. Just wish it wasn't so pricey.

I'm very happy with my copy of the FE 85 f1.4 GM.

Excellent lens. Lighter than I thought. Comparable in size to Canon EF 24-105 f4L, about a 100 grams lighter.

So I noticed a comment the other day from none other than Fred on FM who says the 24-70mm GM is a prime killer for landscapes in that focal range. He's going to sell his Loxia 50; no need for it any more. Now I'm troubled, wondering if I should go that route.

Anyone here have interest in the 24-70?

Yup. I know I went all primes some time back. But I'm now second guessing that choice. Specially with the arrival of the 24-70/2.8.
I really did not want to be constrained by the f4 max aperture of the old FE 24-70, and for non-landscape situations, it's very nice having 1.4 or 1.8 (FE 35, or FE 55, various Batis lenses), but I'm also sort of missing the versatility of a zoom. I get tired of changing lenses constantly. I get tired of lugging around 3-4 lenses on an outing (which invariably leads to fumbling around with 3-4 caps, backend caps, step-up rings, etc. Not to mention the flow of shooting. So I am seriously contemplating switching over to the 24-70/2.8 GM.

There are plenty of samples of it on FM. Seems to really be all that and then some. I could fund it rather easily by selling the Batis and a couple of other overlapping lenses.

I'm holding off a bit for now because I really have not been out shooting much at all lately (too busy and too hot). But I'm thinking of making that move once I'm ready to get back out there again.

Is that sort of your thinking too?

Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.

right now I have the FE 24-70 F4 and Canon 24-70 II 2.8, if I sold both, I could get the FE 24-70 F2.8, but what would I gain??

FE 24-70 2.8 is ridiculous is size, its same size (if not bigger) then Canon 24-70 II with Metabones attached, then I'm sure I would miss the tiny size of FE 24-70 F4.
