Unrelated question on the business side of portraits. What's the best option for showing the images to your client and trying to sell prints? Or selling prints pretty much hard to do these days since anyone can print form their local store? I shot a family birthday party and finished editing the images. Now I'm stuck on how to best to deliver the images and perhaps make some extra money on prints.

Alfredo, do you find the batis 18 to be too close to the loxia 21?

Haha Carlo, I had a similar question in mind. I wonder if Loxia 21 would be too close to B18 and B25. I think my CV10, B18, B25 makes great trio but just can't stop thinking about adding (or at least give it a try) the L21. I did preorder the SY14 but still not sure if I'd actually end up with one.

So lol.. What do you guys think of CV10, SY14, B18, L21, B25 combo? I'll probably not even going to use all of them...

Probably just me, but I never sold prints for any of my past portrait sessions. I collect half fees up front first, then collect second half fees after delivering final DVD with edits. To me, it always felt like the parents or couple would want to print the photos on their own. Perhaps most of them now know how to print for cheap.. Fortunately I retired from any paid sessions (just too busy with day job), and just shoot for fun!

As far as making profits from prints, I was only able to make profits from prints via shooting badminton tournaments (which I only choose to shoot once a year now). I'd take a group photo of about 2-300 people then allowed to sell large prints to them. For many past tournaments, I'd even make photo books and sell to them with profit too.

way too many for one outing for sure. I'de rather carry a zoom if I'm going to consider all that. Pretty much for years, I've been shooting 14 straight to 24 (had the zoom for some time, always came back to 14, and now 10). For me ultrawide is a scenario where I draw in the foreground, and the wider the better. Quite frankly, I like the CV 10 much more than the older SY 14. The starbursts are amazing and generally fits my style of shooting. I would have little issue shooting 10, 24, 70-300....

it really just depends on you and how you deal with gaps. I would love the loxia 21 as well, I think it bridges the gap better (10, 21, 55 vs 10, 24, 55), but I'm not all that concerned, I'm more on the work with what you got side. even 10, 35 would work fine for me, I'm just not really that picky when it comes to gaps, but I dont run more than 4 lenses at once, that's something I wont do.

I had the older CV12 which had very intense vignetting. I'de still be shooting it if it performed better, but the CV 10 gets me there and beyond, enjoy it very much when a scene presents itself.

Very well said and agreed. I have absolutely no intentions to carry all lenses on one outing, and obviously don't need all of them. I just want them.. GAS I guess hehe.

Little off topic perhaps, but I have to wonder how the new 16-35 2.8 GM will perform. Maybe all we could need is CV10 and 16-35GM for main landscape kit?

I've wondered that too but it would have to be stellar to beat the B18 and I assume the L21 too. But suppose you would also have all the other focal lengths in the range that you wouldn't have with a couple of primes only. Looking forward to seeing how good it is (not looking forward to finding out the price)

Prints are a hard sell these days. The best way to consistently sell them is to restrict printing rights depending on how you feel about that. I prefer not to do that but that's me.

I've sold a few prints and the best way is to sell them up front on the convenience and quality of having you do it I lieu of doing it themselves. Make sure you have the pricing and all that ready on the say of the shoot and don't make the offers too complicated.

In terms of delivering images....I always host a gallery on my website even if they prefer a disk i the mail. Presentation goes a long way in how the images are perceived.

Thank you Carlo. Very helpful advice. Do you upload the full resolution images to the gallery?

Gallery is high resolution, but not full resolution. I do upload the full resolution files via google drive and put the link in the gallery so that they can be batch downloaded. The gallery is more for presentation.

It's stated right under his avatar isn't it? That would be my guess anyway. :)

lol. The statue seems to be looking at the moon and being that it looks like an alien I decided to give it that description.

I just made an impulse purchase and got myself a Mitakon 50mm f/0.95. I'll be interested to see how the lens works for environmental portraits.
