They indeed did. but its not possible to test a nikon lens on a canon body or a E mount lens on a nikon body. With advanced sensor technology and more precise the A7RII every lens can now be tested on the same sensor.

Thats why nikon lenses generally had better scores prior to the 5DS announcement as nikon had 36mpx offerings while canons had 24mpx at most.

Yep. I can tell you that all of my Canon glass got a lot sharper when I got the A7RII. Even my 24-70L (1st gen) has been impressing me with the increased level of detail.

Yeah I know...the DXO data is actually really useful...but every so often they make ridiculous statements like "the 85 has Otus like performance", and the whole statement is invalidated because you then see they tested one lens on a 42mp sensor, and the other on a 36mp sensor. When you throw the Otus mounted on the 5DSR into the mix, the story changes, but it's not so click-baity to present the data that way lol.

It's all pretty irrelevant at the end of the day....all of these modern high priced lenses are so sharp that you'd be hard pressed to notice the difference in real world shooting. The thing that stands out most to me when comparing lenses is rendering, and that's something these measurements and even very thorough comparison images fail to capture every time.

No idea.. I know the 685S does HSS, has the built in transceiver, and does TTL.. so that's all I needed.

Off-topic (maybe not since Apple uses Sony sensors). I'm going to order the new iPhone for my wife at midnight tonight. Not going to lie...I'm excited to play with the new dual camera they put into it....particularly the DOF effect. I had an HTC one at one point that used a dual camera to produce composite image with one camera defocused and the other in focus, but the execution wasn't so great. I personally use android devices, but Apple's execution tends to be more refined, so maybe they've done a better job with this.

my first iPhone was the 3G and I was then using samsungs from that point on. In the las few months my work phone got upgraded from a Samsung to an iPhone 5S. It was confusing for the first day but now that I'm used to it I love it! I couldn't see myself going back to Samsung now. I'm also not bothered that there's newer models as this one is still good. The cameras produce decent images too. That's the only reason I would be interested in a newer model as I know the cameras keep getting even better. I follow a few guys on Instagram that only shoot with an iphone and honestly the stuff they produce is amazing

I am also excited about the dual camera on the new iPhone. I have the 6 plus and like the camera in it. I use it a lot for videos of my son.

Here's a new edit on an older image. I wanted to remove the sign and other distractions from this version. The banding in the sky is due to the gif compression. It isn't there in the jpg shot.

Gene, don't forget to add some focus fall off in the foreground too...its really hard to replicate shallow DoF...every time I have tried, I am never happy with the outcome.

Thanks Travis. Originally I had some foreground falloff but removed it. Here is what it looks like with the foreground going out of focus.

it is a bit too abrupt...when I have tried to do that, I use a radial blur mask to avoid the harsh line across the bottom. Like I said...I find it a real PITA to replicate shallow DoF...

may not seem like a huge thing but anyone use family sharing?

well my school requires that kids use an ipad, and so I have to buy apps for the kids to use. With family sharing, they can all share the same purchase. It's pretty darn nifty in practice and a good way to lock a whole family into one camp whether apple or android. My wife is using the iphone 5, and she's due for an upgrade, didnt know you could preorder, so will be checking that out.

My kids are pretty much a lock with apple, they already have their icloud accounts for school, however for me, I'll give up my nexus 6p as soon as apple makes a decent fingerprint reader, it's just so useful to have an ultra fast and reliable fingerprint reader, I cant even believe it's this good (try using any iphone/ipad finger reader for a period of time, it totally sucks in comparison). I hate putting in a passcode and at the same time need that feature to keep my phone secure, I keep dropbox on my phone, which has high security stuff I rely on. The usb 3C charging is amazing as well, so fast.
